Even though this movie starts off with the usual: something goes wrong, spacecraft crashes, people are stranded etc. it still pulls off and introduces the viewer to some new ideas. Riddick is somewhat of a badass convict and has modified his eyes so he is able to see in the dark which is a sought after ability in the situation the shipcrew and he is in. The cutting in the movie is very good and emphasizes the mystique that shrouds around the anti-hero and male protagonist: "Riddick." The story in Pitch Black is, as already mentioned, to some extent very unoriginal and dissatisfied, but the clipping and cutting in the movie blended with some surprising elements which has been added to the story helps it to still support itself very well and one ... I choose to watch the movie, as the US presidential elections is currently taking place. The movie is great piece of political satire.

Robin Williams is a top notch comedian, Tom Dobbs, who's attracts large audience with political jokes. He suddenely announces of running as the US president. The whole nation is stunned by the announcement and he surprisingly wins. Is this a mockery of US politics? Has the nation gone bonkers? That is the general gist of the movie.

A simple idea, well executed:

Put humans on same planet as aggressive creatures sensitive to light. Put planet into *long* eclipse. Watch as humans attempt to get off darkened planet as creatures try to kill them.

Sounds like yet another standard sci-fi horror flick, doesn't it? Wrong. This is a very good movie that features several characters who have several shades of grey. Worth buying the SD version, and existing fans of the movie will be pleased with the improved picture quality of the HD-DVD version, its hard to believe that this film was originally made in 1999 for a mere $20 million!

A man with many hats, outrageous, ranting comedian/author/playwright/pundit, Lewis Black is simply amazing. His dry, pointed rants are one of the funniest stand up performances since comedian George Carlin did his 'seven little words'. Recently on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart, here he gets to cut loose in his first HBO solo special - first but hopefully not his last. Filmed before a live - and very entertained - audience in Brooks Atkinson Theatre in New York City, it's one hour of absolute perfection! No frills mind you, but then would Lewis really have frills? I am sure he could do a routine about he told the HBO executives what to do with their voice-overs and behind the scenes segments!
