If you are British you must see this film. If you are young you must see this film. If you once were young you must see this film again. Unlike the rest of us Travis never got old, never lost his certainty, never compromised. Lyndsay Anderson, thank you for this film. I saw it first when I was 17. I can find no flaw at the age of 50. It is deeply observant, fiercely subversive and as relevant now in 2008 as it was in 68. Look at it and see 2 decades of movie moments that this film inspired. Seminal is the critical description and it is true. See with Kes and it's like an ultrasound photo of modern Britain. An important film from when they made important films.

How I would have loved this back in the early 80s, in the wake of the superior Escape From New York & Mad Max 2, along with the countless knockoffs such as Atlantis Interceptors, 2019 & the Bronx Warriors movies.
As it stands, this is very much 'seen it all before' BUT I still enjoyed it, despite the total lack of originality plot wise!
It's loud (too much at times), action packed and extremeley gory.
Visually, it's VERY impressive, looking even better than a $17,000,000 budget should allow. The special effects, costumes, make up FX and sets are at times stunning! The photography is unusually good for a genre film, and the film is often very atmospheric.
I particularly enjoyed the prologue set in 2008 Scotland, depicting ... Read More:

When people now wonder where the BBC is going and what happens to the licence fee in a world of millions of satellite and cable channels (most of which are rubbish) let it be said that this series is the epitome of what the BBC stands for. It is supposed to inform, educate and entertain. This series does all three magnificently. The concept, the scripting, the casting, the producing, the editing - all of it is brilliant from start to finish. Another reviewer, Rob of South Shields (a Newcastle suburb) notes he grew up later than the period in which this is set - but I was a child at that time in that very same Newcastle. The emotion is all so real that it is like being punched in the stomach - the corruption, the infighting and everything that grew out of it. ... Read More:

I admit first hearing about this i remember thinking that it was an X-Men Rip-off.
I'm So Glad that i finally realised that this isn't anything like X-Men.
First off - No Silly & Easily Noticable Costumes (with a huge H or the Helix Sign splattered on them) so they are ordinary people with extraordinary gifts.
Also Quite Possibly it has a Villain scarier than Darth Vader: Sylar.
the Villain remains as a thorn in the Heroes' Side throughout the First and Second Seasons and then takes his place as the lead Villian in Season 3.
I Must Say in closing that put these story's down into several 2-3 Hour Movies and these will be better than the three X-Men Films put together.
I'd Reccomend this for anyone who is ... Read More:

I have to 'admit' that i saw this when i was a student when it first came out at the Prince Charles theatre, Leicester square. As an 18 year old i was only really interested in the s-e-x and was inevitably disappointed by the lack of it in the edited version of the time. Now seeing the full uncut version that probably would have made me see it again and again hehe. Its certainly more explicit in terms of mainstream cinema than anything ive seen anywhere else. Not a great film by any means but the 'storyline' and depiction of Rome at that time probably is fairly faithful. The acting of all the leads is good and the script for the most part isnt bad at all. And lots and lots of humour. As for the reviewers who suggest it is 'well known' that the actors didnt know what ... Read More:

I was half way through watching a clockwork orange when i couldnt help but think what is all the fuss about??. Yes it may be shocking but that is all it is. Some times people for some reason regard controversial films as masterpieces when in trueth they are average. A good performance from the lead but the storyline is patchy and doesnt flow well. The film realise on shocking rape scenes to make up for the awful storyline, maybe a sign of poor filmmaking but thats being way way to critical
The only reason i have given "A clockwork orange" 4 stars is because of Kubricks other work such as Full metal jacket and the shining and the fact he is no longer with us influenced my desicion. For this film alone i wouldnt go further than 2 stars just for sheer overated piece ... Read More:

If, like me, you think life is too short for the "extras" which are included in "special editions" - largely consisting of the people involved saying how marvellous it was to work with the other people involved - then you need to know that this 2-disc set is mislabelled. I habitually store movies without their cases in albums, and the first thing I do is to chuck out the extras. I did this with "O Lucky Man", on the strength of the label on Disc One which says "The Movie". In fact the movie is split over the two discs, and as a result I ended up with only the first 1hr 25 minutes! But the movie is good enough to be worth buying twice....

I love Heroes and having recently got a Blu Ray player, waited patiently for this to come out.
Ther series itself is fantastic. Some people didn't like Season 2. I agree it wasn't as good as Season 1 but I enjoyed it nonetheless. At least it tried to be different and some cool new characters were introduced.
Picture quality is good but not fantastic. There is an immense amount of detail but sometimes there is too much. I was particularly distracted by the Scenes with Niki as you can clearly see her make up.
Sound is average (poor for DTS HD). All dialogue comes from the centre speaker and although other sounds use all speakers as required, I was just as happy listening in Stereo.
Extras are patchy for Season 1. There are loads of deleted scenes ... Read More:

British cinema is all too short of visionaries. Hidebound by an over-literary word-heavy theatrical tradition and the Heritage Industry, our films tend to be realistic, small-scale and faintly cosy. After Michael Powell, there is only Derek Jarman - and Anderson.
The third film of the trilogy (after "If..." If.... [1968]and "O Lucky Man" (O Lucky Man! [1973]) is equally apocalyptic, equally surreal, and equally individual. The two strands of the plot involve on the one hand a strike-bound hospital desperately trying to prepare for a royal visit, and on the other a crazed surgeon trying, Dr Frankenstein-like, to create a man from scratch. On the television screens there are bombings, battery chickens and wars which stoned technicians giggle at; outside the gates there are Human Rights ... Read More:

I was very disappointed by this film, especially since I do have high regard for Rob Zombie's directorial skills. The story was based around Michael Myer's early childhood and the horrendous carnage that falls around him. I did feel there was no obvious hint as to why Michael goes crazy which was a downside for me. I did like Sheri Moon Zombie's performance however as the grief stricken and long suffering mother of Michael but that is the only thing I can really credit.
