Starting out as a simple "fly on the wall" behind the scenes on the new album, based around the interesting position the band found themselves in, starting anew without a bassist. However, when James Hetfield takes a stint in rehab and finds a new found love for his family - replacing vodka and bear hunting with playing with his son, his dog and some headphones, and taking his daughter to ballet.
The film is a compelling balance; incredibly funny, insightful and deceptively moving all rolled into one. Whether it has an almost satirical look into the musical world (see the scene where Lars is found stewing in his anger - not that that narrows it down - as they then jot down lyrics for Frantic) or a somewhat moving inspection of life ... I actually have this on VHS - absoluteley love it; GREAT footage, live performances, interviews - and all professionally filmed!
THIS IS NOT ONE OF THOSE DODGY UNLICENSED RELEASES (ahem, Metallimania)!!
I'll have to stick with the grainy VHS as I can't play Region 1, BUT if you have the set up, then trust me: Go for this as it's just as good as Cunning Stunts or S&M.
One of the highlights is the live footage from the Wembley gig 20/04/1992 (Freddie Mercury tribute)- EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE AND FILMING!!
It's criminal that this isn't properly available to the UK :-(

Metallica never cease to amaze me when i see their live stuff, i just wish i could be at all the gigs! This DVD is especially good, the island stage and great lighting makes for a great watch, also there are multi angles you can view from. But the best part is the bass solo etc that leads into Nothing Else Matters the whole composition is amazing.
Hope this helps

In a nutshell this movie shows the blinding lead bass technique of Clifford Burton, a prodigy of the four string who refused to do his thing on a guitar. He's been a hell of an inspiration to me and any die hard metallica fan shold not be without it.

It works so well, makes every song sound more epic than it already is shows that orchestral music can work with rock music.
There is an option to turn off the orchestra and I have to be honest, I've never even gone for this option. I find that the orchestra makes it even better.
The DVD is the only place you'll get the two new songs - Human and No Leaf Clover (apart from the CD, heh). Once more with Metallica in it's present day deciding to reinvent themselves and when live, playing the older stuff, this is likely to be the last time Metallica release a live DVD with any songs from Load and ReLoad.
I also can't remember the last time I saw a set list from Metallica which had Ktulu or Of Wolf And Man on it. Some people ... Read More:

This is definatley a must buy for metallica fans, especially if you play an instrument like drums, bass or guitar and are intrested in making music in a band. It gives you a good idea of the way that metallica make their music, especially how they went about making the black album. The reason i gave it only 4 stars out of 5 was because it only talked about the making of Sandman, sad but true, hoiler than thou, the unforgiven, wherever i may roam, nothing else matters and a little of the god that failed. Although I am a big fan of metallica I found out things on this dvd that I never knew before. Such as why Bob decided to work with metallica, what some of the songs mean to the members of metallica, Jason's original idea for my friend of misery and more. Also it is ... Read More:

this fellow shows you how to play a lot of the coolest riffs and some solos from justice, lightning and kill 'em all, and puppets. there's some easy stuff like seek and destroy, and some not-so-easy stuff like blackened and the solo from sanitarium. great for beginners wanting to improve technique whilst learning cool songs, and also probably good for seasoned players who just want to learn metallica songs.

Being a new fan of Metallica, I was eager to get my hands on any of their stuff and it was great to get footage on how they were almost 10 years ago.The video features music videos of The Unforgiven, Wherever I May Roam, Enter Sandman and Nothing Else Matters. It was nice to get a look at how Metallica went about recording their music and it gave a very good insight on the characters of the band members, mostly Lars, because he's the one who's keen to get his face on the camera. There are some really funny moments on this and in the 2nd part of this video though the 2nd one is overly long and you can get tired of hearing Enter Sandman for the millionth time. If you're a relatively new fan then this is great, but for an old one, this stuff will probably be old news. ... Read More:
