This film is great. It is a really good idea to start of as a cartoon then use real people in the real world.
I have watched it over and over and still love it and laugh and sing along.

The film follows Speed Racer, a young racing whizz kid, like Lewis Hamilton, who is racing in memory of his older brother Rex Racer, who died in a dangerous road race. Royalton industries offers to buy Speed for his racing team but he refuses and joins forces with the mysterious Racer X to bring down the corrupt Royalton.
The film itslef is very visual with lots of bright colours which put off a lot of reviews. However, this film is trying to be a live action anime, and it succeds and for that I can't fault it. As for the plot, its quite engaging with some very good turns from Matthew Fox as the mysterious Racer X and Emile Hirsch as Speed.
I only gave this 3/5 stars because there wasn't enough of Racer X and his mystery ... Read More:

This is such a classic film which I have loved since my early childhood. The characters are amazing and the soundtrack will stay with you for years to come. A family favorite for both halloween and christmas and any other occassion!

Watched this a few years back but couldn't get on with the animation style. It was bought as a present for my 4yo who loves it. On re-watching I didn't have the same animation prejudice simply because Tim Burton has made it more 'acceptable'. Shallow of me I know but there you go.
The Aunts are fantastic in the 'real-life' section although I couldn't get on with the boy. Pete Postlethwaite still gives me the creeps (although that's from the Sharpe TV series rather than this film).
In the animated section the bugs are all pretty good and the boy gets better.
The songs are OK but I didn't find them particularly catchy.

This is an interesting film; a good solid whodunit combined with a bit of Americans-in-combat-angst. Usually such a mixture would result in a mess, but in this case they fit together wonderfully well. There are lots of good performances linked to two main ones from the female cop (Charlize Theron) and Tommy Lee Jones as the institutionalised ex-military policeman. If the film has a theme (other than just a damned good plot) it is to do with the lack of male communication. This is admirably communicated by Jones in his at times robotic performance. Is it grief at the death of his son or is a life of polishing shoes and creasing trousers just ingrained, the story does not feel the need to tell us; which is very much part of the theme? But Jones suggests both; such that an ... Read More:

No matter what anyone says, and no matter what happens, no other musical can beat the one and only "Rocky Horror Picture Show"! Seriously! I know I may be exaggerating, but tied with the Baz Luhrman classic Moulin Rouge!, this is THE greatest musical of all time!
What I like most about "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" is the fact that it has its own inventive style. I mean, look at musicals like Mary Poppins and Sound of Music (both good films by the way). While they have people singing nice lovely songs aimed at families, RHPS tells about a "Sweet Transvestite" and his servants whom dance to "The Time Warp". How many musicals use THAT idea? Also, the characters are brilliant, the story is well thought-out and the songs are all-singing, all-dancing and all-rockin' (they mostly ... Read More:

I`ve just bought my first blu-ray player and thougt this movie would be a good test of quality of the media. Thankfully I was`nt disappointed, the picture is astonishing throughout with nearly every scene awash with amazing colour and vibrancy. It really does need to be seen to be believed. As I don`t have a surround sound system for my player yet I can`t comment on the sound.
As for the film itself, its a very enyoyable film for all the family with a decent plot and acting from some big names and at 2hrs15mins never feels overlong, mostly down to the visuals I think though.
Well worth added to your collection especially in the 3 for 2 Amazon have on at the moment.

First things first - watch it at all costs if only for a young Kirsten Dunst. I can't imagine a better Amy and whenever I go back to the book I always imagine her in the part. Full of life, adorable and hilarious. There's a bit I just love, where Jo says "Stop sulking, Amy, you look like a pigeon", and Amy leans back, rolls her eyes and gives a sulky couple of 'coo's. Sadly, she gets cut two thirds of the way through for a 'grown-up' Amy, who is all right but nothing to write home about.
I wanted to like it, but the film as a whole is pretty flawed. The pace is monotonous and some of the best scenes of the book are cut and replaced with dull dialogue. Because the film is of both Little Women books, a lot of character development is cut and so the first time old Mr. Laurence ... Read More:

There are plenty of customer reviews of this superb film already - wonderful acting by all the cast; great directing and a deft adaptation, though it takes liberties with Updike's novel. An absolute classic which is great fun to watch again and again.
My gripe, here, is with the print of the Warner Home Video DVD. Poor picture quality, particularly in the first half hour, is a huge disappointment. And the sound is not that good, either. The age of the film is no excuse. I watched, the day before, an immaculate and sparkling print of the Bette Davis classic NOW VOYAGER, so if a 1940s movie can look that good, Warners should have done better with this 1987 film.
This happens time and again with a good many DVDs. Often the original film frame turns out to be cropped, to ... Read More:

The acting (especially from Lopez) is very wooden. This manages to ruin a reasonable story line and it defeats all attemptes by the supporting cast to keep the story on track. Also, she cannot dance. An incredible piece of casting that destroys the film.
