Madame Bovary

starring: Frances O'Connor, Claire Hackett, Adam Cooper, Hugh Bonneville, Eileen Atkins
directed by: Tim Fywell

Release Date March 13, 2006
Lets face it, Madame Bovary was always going to be difficult to produce. The story really centres around Dr Bovary, and Emma Bovary is his second wife, and you have to read about his first marriage until you get to Emma. Although I am a fan of Flaubert and Madame Bovary, as well as many others, I can also see where a large group of people are coming from when they say that this book is one of the most boring written.Madame Bovary (Penguin Classics) if you would like to read the book.

This production is not a straight transposition of the novel, opening as it does after Dr Bovary has lost his first wife. We see in this drama Dr Bovary getting Emma to become his second wife. Emma has been brought up spoiled by her father. Dr Bovary ... Read More:

Release Date September 19, 2005
I'm currently watching this with my young daughters and they are absolutely fascinated with this. I remember watching it at their age when the BBC were showing the original and it feels very special indeed to now be sharing this with my children, many years on.

The quality of acting is superb and the sets are deliciously retro which do nothing but add a particularly Dickensian atmosphere to the series.

We will be watching the final episode later on and have thoroughly enjoyed this heirloom edition of an excellent BBC costume drama.

A Christmas Carol [1999] (REGION 1) (NTSC)

starring: Patrick Stewart, Richard E. Grant, Joel Grey, Ian McNeice, Saskia Reeves
directed by: David Hugh Jones

Release Date November 07, 2000
I remember thinking nine years ago 'What the hell do we need yet another version of A Xmas Carol for' (as great as the story is) and consequently, I avoided watching it. But years roll on quite swiftly, and eventually, I thought I'd give it a go, spurred on mainly by seeing Patrick Stewart on a few chatshows down the years and thinking what a nice bloke he was, completely unshowbizzy. He was without doubt a star in this film version, full of awe at what his ghosts are showing him, and full of humanity when he eventually saw the light.

This is quite a snug and cosy feeling production, with alot of attention paid to little details, and the domestic scenes with Bob Cratchet and family are heartwarming. Stewart plays the character as he should ... Read More:

I brought this expecting it to be a really good vicer of dibley film. But it turned out just to be Dawn French talking and just some flashs of the actual films of vicar of dibley.

Titus Andronicus BBC Shakespeare Collection (1985) (DVD)

starring: Trevor Peacock, Eileen Atkins, Edward Hardwicke
directed by: Jane Howell

Release Date
Having subdued the Goths, conquering hero Titus Andronicus returns to Rome to bury his sons, with Gothic Queen Tamora and her retinue as captives. Titus sacrifices Tamora's eldest son to the gods and helps Saturninus become the new Roman emperor. But when Saturninus chooses Tamora as his wife, an unstoppable wave of bloody revenge is unleashed . . .
Black humour and revenge mark a production where numerous characters face a bloody and horrific death. Shakespeare's revenge tragedy is an intense, primal work with passages of great poetry. As the excesses and ambiguities of family relationships and the abuse of power take hold, Trevor Peacock, in the lead role, delivers a dominating and moving performance.
This, the most gory of all of the Bard's works is such ... Read More:

I love the vicar of dibley!!! I have grown up watching it on tv and find it hillarious and entertaining. Anyone who thinks the vicar of dibley sucks needs to be slapped with a happy stick! 10/10 I reccomend all of the series to everyone, young and old alike! If you don't buy them you are missing out, seriously!! All you need when you are feeling down is the vicar and a big bar of chocolate!!! Love you Gerrie!!!!
"Don't you argue, Don't you bicker, voter for Gerry she's our vicar!!!"
