The adaptation of Mark Twain's book "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" to the screen left in the fun parts of the story and took out all the point of the book. The book contains many lessons and thoughts that did not make it into the movie. However the movie is fun to watch and can be quite funny.
An auto mechanic and inventor Hank (Bing Crosby) is transported back to A.D. 528 with his almanac. After realizing where he is, he uses his wits and knowledge of the future to survive. He has many adventures. He helps a King (Cedric Hardwicke) to understand his people, overcomes a tyrant and finds a loyal friend (William Bendix). Naturally being Bing there is music and incantations to blot out the sun. Eventually there is true love Alisande (Rhonda Fleming). ... Read More:

Watched it quite by accident one Sunday morning. Found it so sad. Although I could half guess what was going to happen, I was wishing that Robert Taylor was going to save Vivian Leigh in time. Must admit it really upset me. Was really sad for her, but also for him in that he still loved her after all that time. Think I will stop now before I get upset all over again!

This is not the movie I would have liked to watch since the story of the movie is tame and anticlimactic; then again I am a big fan of Loretta Young, who plays beautiful Anita Halstead an engaged woman to be married. She breaks her engagement to marry a magician named Arturo (David Niven) with whom she develops instant love. The happiness does not last long since her role as a wife and stage assistant is a little too much to handle when she finds out that she has to go on a world tour, and watch her husband's dare-devil stunts and his flirtations with other women. It doesn't take too long for her to divorce him and remarry again, but the magician doesn't give up sitting down. He goes after her, to win her back in spite of the fact she is remarried. Finally Anita realizes ... Read More:

Mr. Moto, at least for me, is a surprise. The Hollywood caricatures of other races -- the foot-shuffling and eye-rolling of black males, the "Ah-so'ing,' "honorable son" and awful pseudo-Confucianism of Charlie Chan -- is not much present with Kentaro Moto (Peter Lorre), executive director of an import-export firm "with a hobby for magic." Sure, this being Hollywood Lorre wears glasses but they're not thick. He uses a dental appliance with slightly protuberant and poorly spaced choppers, but it's only a slight exaggeration. There's some overly polite dialogue for Lorre, but Lorre's distinctive Hungarian accent makes it more piquant that demeaning.
Mr. Moto also is an expert at hand-to-hand combat, an occasional detective and good at disguises. He's smart and clever. It ... Read More:

By now the Mr. Moto series has settled for the most part into the standard low budget conventions of minimal investment by the studio in the hope of maximum return. Kentaro Moto is still interesting, a combination of politeness, a clever mind and violence. Peter Lorre makes him worth watching, but Lorre, who resented being stuck in these programmers and not making much money out of them, is just doing what he has to do. That wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing in a programmer if the plots were complicated, the dialogue displayed writing skill and the acting went beyond moustache twirling. That's not the case with some of these four.
Mr. Moto in Danger Island:
Moto is in Puerto Rico to crack a case of diamond smuggling. Cheap South American diamonds are flowing through ... Read More:
