I am a huge fan of Steptoe & Son and I have all the individual releases of the eight series and also the two films. Like with Dad's Army I really wanted to complete my collection

The stumbling block... the edited release of these Christmas specials. I know the BBC dvds have a habit for this, you just need to see the Only Fools and Horses, Ideal, the original The Young Ones releases, Citizen Smith and Bottom DVDs. They may only be minor edits on some of those, but is disappointing that they do this. Even Yes, Prime Minister Series 1 was treated badly by being on a double sided disc, when other ones of these were on two discs. Steptoe & Son - Series Seven [1972]

And so at last we come to the first series of 'Steptoe and Son' to be released entirely in colour, although of course it was actually the third series to be originally filmed in colour. We now know why the two earlier colour series were released in such poor quality black and white versions, and I suppose we should be grateful to have them at all, but it still reflects badly on the BBC losing/dumping them in the first place, as does the extremely basic, almost throw away packaging of these releases. Once again no extras and the most minimal annotation. They may as well have released the disc in a clear plastic sleeve!

Steptoe & Son - Series Eight [1974]

'STEPTOE and SON' remain , for this writer, THE superior example of BRITISH comedy from the 1960s and 70s: principally due to the highly accomplished, polished and immaculately tuned performances of the two indestructable leads.
'STEPTOE and SON' at their peak actually managed to attract a staggering half of the entire UK population within their viewing figures; a phenomenon that is unlikely ever to be repeated.

This contains the hilariously untypical 'SEVEN STEPTORAI' entry; which features an extended, elaborate fight sequence that is stuffed with uproariously hilarious gags.

Despite some slight misgivings from previous reviewers, this series is certainly amongst my own personal favourite......FIVE STARS,no hesitation!

i thoroughly enjoyed this film it's a fun film that plays with the different cultures from europe the german character is the funniest as is the scene of the english couple on the beach if you liked the plank you'll like this.
