Black Christmas [1974]

starring: Olivia Hussey, Keir Dullea, Margot Kidder, John Saxon, Roy Moore
directed by: Bob Clark

Release Date December 04, 2006
Black Christmas was released in 1974, making it the first slasher flick and while the film must have been scary for its day, it hasn't aged well at all and this unfortunatly makes the film boring for modern horror audiences. There is no gore, you don't see the killer, the deaths are pretty lame and most of the film is girls sitting around talking about crap. If you want a gorey film, avoid this and watch the remake but if you prefer a suspenseful film, there are worse choices out there than Black Christmas.

Porky's/Porky's 2 - The Next Day [1981]

starring: Dan Monahan, Tony Ganios, Wyatt Knight, Chuck Mitchell
directed by: Bob Clark

Release Date August 13, 2001
Porky's on the surface is a raunchy, cheeky teen-flick about a group of young sex mad hethens that do nothing but drink, sleep with women and play sports. Yet there seems to be a lot more to the entire trilogy than just this. Prky's tells a lot about how far people will go to protect their friends, it shows a lot of courage, anger, hate, possibly even love, and also tackles the racism that took place towards Jewish people during the period.

Take a closer look at this film, and in fact parts 2 and 3, and you will be pleasantly surprised what you find on top of all the sex and booze. A classic comedy with some fantastic attractions, such as Miss Ballbricker and an unbelievably sexy Kimn Cattrall, should be watched by anyone and everyone who is ... Read More:

My teenage years just wouldnt have been the same without Porkys. It makes me laugh just the same every time i watch it. The eggs, Cherry Forever, the shower scene, the headmasters office, Mike Hunt, Lassie, etc... are possibly some of the funniest in film history. Really! The headmasters scene is brilliant, i wonder if you can get outtakes or interviews with the cast yet? The film is also very grown-up about certain issues and makes you think. Not always going for the laughs it deals with the more sensitive issues expertly well. Brilliant. Classic.

directed by: Bob Clark

Release Date November 01, 2007
A little jewel of a film! This movie was released with not much fanfare in 1983, but has developed a loyal following in the U.S. due to it's repeated airing on cable television. Such is it's cult following, that American cable network TBS regularly hosts a "Christmas Story Marathon" during which the film is shown for 24 hours straight, from Christmas Eve to Christmas Day! I moved to Ireland from America 6 years ago, and have searched in vain for this film to appear on the Christmas schedule of RTE, BBC, Sky or any of the other 500 channels on my system. Sadly "A Christmas Story" is virtually unheard of on this side of the Atlantic, and I soon realised that I would probably never see it again, unless I bought it myself.

The film is great ... Read More:

directed by: Bob Clark

Release Date January 21, 2003
!MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS!
This is a wonderful film, concerning the investigations of Holmes and Watson into the 'Jack the Ripper' Whitechapel murders. A variation on this story had already been filmed as 'Study In Terror' with John Neville and Donald Houston as Holmes and Watson respectively. While that is a very fine film, and well worth checking out, it is a strictly B-movie affair, and far more lurid in its story telling.
This is simply sumptous. The fog shrouded streets of East London, have never been filmed to look so beautiful and so dangerous at once.
The police, led by pompous Sir Charles Warren have already warned to leave the case alone, and our sleuthing duo begin to understand why, when they uncover a web of corruption and deceit, ... Read More:

This isnt a bad movie and indeed there are some great cheeky moments and scenes but the overall feeling of the movie is one of desperation, thankfully the follow up to this was great but to follow a classic like porkys i expected much better.
The usual misfits from angel beach return led by the great peewee, and they are involved in a school play but when they cast an native american indian then the local church and kkk group get involved in protest.
i suppose thats the problem here as the film takes a stance against racism which is all well and good but it isnt great in the company of the filthy jokes and just seems to be there to gain acclaim and from what i read this wasnt a success upon release so hey ho to that idea.
It is strange as well that porky doesnt ... Read More:

Black Christmas [1974]

starring: Olivia Hussey, Keir Dullea, Margot Kidder, John Saxon, Marian Waldman
directed by: Bob Clark

Release Date December 08, 2003
I have often wondered why there are so many bad horror movies these days. Movies that instead of focusing on suspense and real chills, just pour endless amounts of blood in your face, thinking this will do the trick, and hopefully become a cult classic. Film after film, more and more horror movies are becoming increasingly similar, and you can almost guess the whole entire plot of the movie, no more than 10 minutes into the film. Everything in horror these days is all about over the top special effects, numbingly loud thumping music, that is supposed to get you scared. Black Christmas (the original) is (IMO) one of the best and scariest horror movies ever made. Why? you ask. Let me tell you. There are so many reasons. First. In horror today, when someone (usually the pretty girl) ... Read More:

If you don't mind cheese, secretly lust after Dolly Parton and have always wanted to hear Sylvester sing then this is the film for you. It is a tongue-in-cheek look at the world of Country and Western Music with love and laughter thrown in.

Definitely a Marmite film - you will either love it or hate it.

From the Hip [1986] (REGION 1) (NTSC)

starring: Judd Nelson, Elizabeth Perkins, John Hurt, Darren McGavin, Dan Monahan
directed by: Bob Clark

Release Date August 22, 2006
From the Hip is one of those rare films, a court room drama with humour, touching moments, suspense and real drama. It has excellent performances from John Hurt and Judd Nelson. Nelson plays the lead role of a newly qualified lawyer itching to get at his first case in a court of law. He plays the lawyer "Stormy Weathers" superbly, showing excellent skills in convincing the audience how good a lawyer he is.
The main part of the film then focuses on "Stormy Weathers" having to defend a murderer, and having to get to grips with his conscience, with John Hurt in fine form as the murderer on trial.

This is a must see film, and in my opinion, should have more than one sequel.

There is one particularly humerous part in the early stages of the film, that is " worth the entrance fee alone".
