An absolutely fantastic fun film. It has stood the test of time and remains near the top of the list along with Grease and Dirty Dancing for a good night in.
Highly recommend watching this film,if not to take it seriously, to have a good laugh.

PLEASE NOTE: This review refers to 'Funny Girl' only.
It's the first time I've ever seen this picture, and as I'm not a big Streisand fan, I did not think I would be that impressed, but I was pleasantly surprised!
Barbra Streisand is extremely funny as 'Funny Girl' Fanny Brice, and she also plays the sad scenes with equal sincerity. However, the film was spoilt for me at about halfway through, when someone held up a live Lobster to Streisand's character and she responds; 'start boiling water' - call me silly, but this ruined it for me... Why something so horrid should have been brought into a musical and light-hearted film of this type is quite beyond me...
Left a nasty taste in my mouth, and so I could ... Read More:

I have watched this film many, many times over the years and it's still as great as the first time I watched it. A superstar cast brings with it quality acting and a superb script. Don't think I've ever watched it without crying, so if you're a Steel Magnolias virgin, or coming back to it for a repeat viewing - be sure to have the tissues at the ready....
It also has one of my all-time favourite quotes, which is something I live by...
"I'd rather have one moment of wonderful than a lifetime of nothing special" - simply beautiful!
Obviously if you like your no-brainer action car-chase movies, this isn't for you. If you want a simple story of lives and friendships, beautifully written and flawless performances, with depth ... Read More:

This film is not my favourite Woody Allen by any chalk, but it has some priceless moments. There is certainly enough here to keep people interested if you're in the right mood, although some of it does creep towards navel gazing.
For me this is Woody Allen just about the right side of too much self regarding. Parts of it work brilliantly, so if you like his wit, or particularly relate to Humphrey Bogart, watch it.

I saw this movie when I was a 13 year old wannabee ballerina, who later became a ballerina.
I loved the story and the choreography and the story of a young rising star hoping to join a company is inspiring.
Mischa is at his best in this and the repertoire is excellent. I used to watch the excerpts and dream of dancing those steps, later in my career I used the film to gain tips for my own performances.
So glad to find it on dvd here, I had a taped off the TV cassette which has long worn out, now my own aspiring dancer daughter can watch this wonderful movie.

With the current remake of Neil Simon's 'The Goodbye Girl' showing on television at the moment, it reminded me of this original film production, one of the better films from the 1970s, and one of the better films to derive from a Broadway play to keep much of the same character as the play. This film won numerous awards: Best Actor Oscar/Best Actor Golden Globe/Best Actor BAFTA for Richard Dreyfus; Best Picture Golden Globe; Best Actress Golden Globe/Best Actress Oscar Nomination for Marsha Mason; Best Supporting Actress Oscar Nomination for Quinn Cummings; Best Writing Oscar Nomination for Neil Simon, and the list goes on...
Neil Simon's play is dialogue driven rather than action-driven; this sometimes means the kiss of death for film, but in ... Read More:
