This used to be my favourite. I went to see it at a cinema in the 70s, when it was distinctly arthouse. Times change, though. Now the racism grates too much. When it was made I'm sure it was meant to be radical. Rick saying he does not sell human beings when offered a price for Sam might have been cutting edge in '42. Not now.
It does not matter how captivating Ms Bergman is, I cannot see past her using that American racist insult, 'boy'.
Sam, of course, does not even have two dimensions to his character.

At 27 years of age, my husband bought this for me for Christmas, as I love this time of year and happy festive films. This is the first time I have ever seen White Christmas and I loved it! I would really like to find more classics of this type but I have no idea where to start! An excellent film, I can't wait to see it again!

just watched the blu ray version of this classic movie, and i must say for most part it looks positively stunning! considering its age it puts many modern films to shame! and with plenty of extras to keep most movie fans happy its a great example of what can be done with the extra space that blu ray discs have to offer.Th Adventures of Robin Hood [Blu-ray] [1938] [US Import] oh just to confirm the disc came from america and is region free playing without any problems on my playstation 3.
This is a really good collection of films by one of Hollywood's premier action men. Westerns, Pirates, War - it's all here and they're all classics with loads of action, romance, and style. The kids will love them - highly recommended.

This has to be the best film Elvis ever made. From the opening scene with Elvis singing "Crawfish" to the very end, this film rocks! Elvis shows great acting talent, sings great songs and the storyline is strong. If you only buy one Elvis film, this should be it.I've watched it half-a-dozen times and my wife over 40 times. The story is of Danny rebelling against the direction his parents would like him to take, falling for the right girl and then the wrong girl with a little fisticuffs along the way.Recommended fun for all ages.Buy it and enjoy.

It was for films like this that we used to queue up in the rain outside the local Granada. It starts off in the most pleasing and heartwarming way and keeps it going right through to the delightful and amusing ending. Having seen this film many years ago, I have since had a lovely evening in the company of my grandchildren listening to them laughing at our heros and hissing at the baddies. A purchase of this film would, I'm sure, make a perfect gift for family or friends. Please don't let it pass by.

This double bill has to be an absolute bargain for two well produced dvds starring John Wayne. The Comancheros is a rousing action packed typical Wayne movie and on its own well worth the four stars. It is The Undefeated story which is, I am afraid, just plain silly. If you suspend belief totally you will be well entertained by this story of two former enemies joining together to help each other. Its just that Wayne is quite believable as the Union colonel. It is the Southern colonel played by Rock Hudson that lets the film down once you start to examine the story. Hudson just does not fit the role of Southern gentleman/colonel. His character is hopeless as a military commander. When his waggons come under attack he has to be told by Wayne to issue guns to the women. He never ... Read More:
