The acting (especially from Lopez) is very wooden. This manages to ruin a reasonable story line and it defeats all attemptes by the supporting cast to keep the story on track. Also, she cannot dance. An incredible piece of casting that destroys the film.

I have yet to actually meet someone else outside our family who has seen this masterpiece. It is a work of genius. It's hugely funny , worrying, sad, tragic and uplifting - and there aren't too many film you can say that about.
The breadth of strange talent on display is staggering. The one man marching band who uses no instruments and the biscuit tin tap dancer to name but two.
The leads are universally excellent. Oliver Platt went on to do wonderful work (see The Imposters)and Lee Evans has never been funnier. leslie Caron is gorgeous, Jerry Lewis is bravely unlikeable and even the dog "Toast" has character. The film for me is stolen by the two older performers, Freddie Davies and George Carl who have gravity, ... Read More:

This is a superb film that, inexplicably, is not well known.
A gentle giant of a boy who has been almost irrevocably damaged by terrible events in his childhood is brought back to life by a small disabled boy.
This disabled boy is given a chance to see the world - and live in his own world with this huge companion.
It is funny, sweet and very emotional - but never in a contrived manner.
How it didn't get an Oscar - or Elden Henson (the actor who plays Max Kane) didn't get an Oscar I'll never understand.

It doesn't matter if you have never heard of this Irish tenor, or even like that kind of music, this is a marvelously warm film. Adrian Dunbar is a promoter of a club, in the UK, who normally books look-a-likes, however after several disasters he decides to find the man himself - Josef Locke (yes, this is the correct spelling). He travels to Ireland and after some searching he finally meets him and persuades him to come back and do one last performance. The reason for Josef being in Ireland is to avoid UK tax, of which he owes an undisclosed amount. With the UK police trying to catch him this is a more than pleasant caper. (And I bet you can't help humming the main theme, "Hear my song")

What a lovely light comedy. The characters were amusing. It was a nice glance into modern day Tokyo, and changing Japanese culture. (And a million times better than the U.S Richard Gere version).
