For me, Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie were, are and always shall be, the quintessential Jeeves and Wooster! As English as Pimms and Cucumber sandwiches, this glorious P.G. Wodehouse creation lifts the veil on the altogether more carefree life in 1920's high society, ironically observed through the wit of one of our great writers. And who better to bring it to the screen than two of our greatest comic talents.
Sadly, P.G. Wodehouse has suffered of late from the tight mouthed disapproval of Political Correctness. I wish that some people could just get over their left wing angst about "toffs" though, and see this for what it is - a wry and witty gallop through an entirely different era. This is comic farce, and it pokes fun at absolutely ... Read More:

Immerhin ... Read More:

This series is based upon stories writted by P.G. Wodehouse, who is one of the funniest writers of all time and a complete master of the art. An excellent production, of good technical quality.
Hugh Laurie plays the best ever Bertie Wooster and Steven Fry plays the definitive Jeeves. A brilliant pairing.
The humour belongs to the "posh twit with devious valet" genre, which might not appeal to someone with a restricted sense of humour, but take heed: if you like P.G. Wodehouse then this is the pure triple-distilled essence; if you don't know P.G. Wodehouse then read all his books, buy this collection and laugh yourself silly; if you don't smile at the works of 'the master' then there is no point living any longer.

I have to admit that although owning the 'Special' edition of this dvd, I've never sat through all episodes - until now. It was all quite dreary before, with decidedly muted colours and poor video quality. It really is quite a transformation, with clarity and colour that has long been missing. A worthwhile buy. ( I now understand why Mrs. Bennett had such contempt for Darcy!)

Im only 17years old and i am obsessed with Jane Austen! Ive watched both versions of Pride and Prejudice as it's my favourite of the Austen collection. I think Keira was better for the character Elizabeth Bennet for certain, but i think Colin firth was amazing at playing darcey as i find him so sexy, but Matthew Macfadyen created more chemistry between them both! I think in the newer version you can see the tension between them both all the time and your just shouting at the tv coz you get frustrated at them both. I think the newer version is sooo much better without a doubt, but the older one if still very good. Id personally prefer the newer one!!!!!

Frank Jones (Michael Caine) has a son (Nigel Havers) who works in a top secret British intelligence agency. Frank has had experience in that line, but now has retired to a quiet and safe life. His son tells him that strange things are happening, and he's planning on leaving and marrying an older woman he's fallen in love with. He says a Soviet mole was found, that security is all over the place encouraging people to rat on each other. The higher ups seem convinced that if they don't do something, their American friends in the CIA will stop working with them.
Frank isn't thrilled over the marriage plans, and he tells his son that it's unlikely anything off key can be happening in the agency. It's obvious that Jones loves his son deeply and wants his son ... Read More:

I got this item with some trepidation in view of an earlier reviewer's comments on the picture quality, but was pleasantly surprised when there didn't seem to be any significant difference in same between this entry and others in the series. I don't know the history of this series but bear in mind that if it originated on TV, it's original aspect ratio was undoubtedly 4x3. Had it been "converted" to a 16x9 ratio, this would likely have been accomplished by loping off the top and bottom of the picture, as is so frequently done elsewhere. No thanks, I'll take the 4x3 ratio please, and keep all the picture!

When we last saw the great forensic professor of medicine, Dr. Joseph Bell (Ian Richardson), from the University of Edinburgh, it was 1873. He and his callow young medical student, Arthur Conan Doyle, had just solved a horrendous series of murders, but at great cost. The young woman Doyle had loved was the last victim and the murderer had escaped. It's now a few years later. Doyle has his degree and is trying to establish his own practice. Bell has chosen to become friends with Doyle, drawn by Doyle's eagerness to learn, his intelligence and his concern for the sick and weak. Bell also is touched by the knowledge of Doyle's great loss. He is sensitive enough not to comment on Doyle's physical change. Instead of a callow youth, Doyle, while still tentative in manner, now looks something ... Read More:
