Took a while to heat up - my interest grew and the excitement rolled - then a big dissapointment for an ending (perhaps that was the point) but these types of endings may make for good reading - but not very interesting for a film.

I watched this with my girlfriend and she (like a lot of women I hear) was in floods of tears.
Call me a "typical bloke" if you will, but I was not emotionally drawn into it. I didn't see any chemistry between Swank and Butlers characters so never really bought their relationship. I thought Swanks character had better chemistry with that of Connick Jrs.
Anyhow, it's an ok film with some funny moments - had the casting been a bit better I too may have had a tear in my eye

This is British stand up at it's best on TV. It's very similar to "Whose line is it anyway?", not surprising since Dan Patterson created both of them, but this is more spoken comedy and is topical. Most of the jokes are funny, if you catch them. Be warned if you're not British or aware of British politics some of the jokes will go over your head as they make jokes of the leader of the Liberal Democrat party. The best bits were "bad things to say ...", eg things you never hear announced over the tannoy.
My biggest disappointment is that there are no subtitles, which means when the comedians are going at full pelt it's difficult to hear what was said (hence the 3 stars). Several times, I had to rewind to try to get the jokes. In this day ... Read More:

New fairytales are surely dangerous territory for big film studio's to venture into. Stardust has overcome that hurdle by recruiting an 'A' list cast.
Having taken that leap of faith, a production of great merit is the result. The triumph of which must be the understated, tongue in cheek delivery by the principles, even the Americans. Robert De Niro way out of his comfort zone does a particulaly good job.
Its like a 'Princess Bride', with a big budget. And in that league as well. Enjoy.

In one of Walt Disney's classics, Bagheera the panther offers to take Mowgli, a young boy, to the man village before the evil tiger Shere Khan gets to him.
This family adventure is a classic, made so by a beautiful sentimental plot about human emotions, including loyalty, sensitivity and most importantly love. And these human emotions are decoded through the animals of the jungle.
With the enchanting and fun loving actions of Baloo the bear and the honest and hard actions of Bagheera, do audiences get that true feel of the human spirit, and the facts of life, to have fun, but to face the truth as well, which is also reflected in some of the most catchy and enjoyable songs ever created for a Disney picture.

Now this should've been really good. "Sweeney Todd" has one of the best (and most difficult to perform) scores of any 20th century musical... So what did they do with it? Dumbed it down and removed over half of the material so that the cast of actors-who-can-sing could manage it. It really needed singers-who-could-act. That said, Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham-Carter do a really good job with what they've got and the final scenes are wonderful. I found the highly-stylised London too much like "300" or "Sin City" and it just didn't work for me. It's fine if you're making a movie based on a graphic novel but for one that isn't? It just looked out-of-place. The only Tim Burton film I don't want to watch again.
