There are not enough words to express how much I truly adore this movie, it's legendary! I could watch this every day and still not get bored, I'm not even going to wait until I have kids to try and justify me buying it.
Release Date June 23, 2008
This is feel-good viewing at its best - a charming, modern fairytale with Christina Ricci expertly leading a very strong cast as Penelope, the girl born with the face of a pig thanks to an age-old family curse. She is supported by a host of familiar faces, including Reese Witherspoon in a brief but memorable appearance as Penelope's new-found friend. James McAvoy plays Penelope's would-be suitor, and is perfectly cast as the loveable rogue.
With themes of rejection and self-acceptance at its core, the film has a really wide appeal. Far-fetched but relevant, it makes for a really fun, warm hour and half of viewing.

I bought this DVD for my young son when he was two years old, with a degree of nostalgia in mind. I would not have anticipated quite what a hit it has been. The gentle, moral tales have captivated him to an amazing degree. We must have been watching these for a year now and he doesn't tire of them at all. The animation of the pictures is very simple but effective, the music is just wonderful. Unlike some other DVDs I've bought (Trumpton, Clangers) this one has lasted the test of time wonderfully - my only complaint is that the new Gladiator tale jars slightly image wise and leaves utterly unexplained how Mr Benn is supposed to know Basher in the first place!!

imho, it's the things that other people hated about this film that made me love it:
the acting was believable. i think that i would make a whimpering noise if i suddenly found myself on the ground with a huge monster standing above me.
the dialogue was believable. in real life people generally don't soliloquy like shakespeare, or describe ever innermost emotion, or philosophise or have great one-liners every minute - they usually just talk rubbish, like they do in this film.
the script was believable. it was what you could reasonably expect to happen if a half-kilometer high monster invaded new york.
there IS humour in the film, if you aren't po-faced.
the direction was tight. it moved forward. ... Read More:

After finally convincing my brother to watch an episode of Family Guy, infuriatingly it turned out to be this one. It's really not up to the standard I've come to expect of the series' writers, it was pretty lame, really, obviously written by Star Wars fans for Star Wars fans. Now he refuses to watch it at all and thinks I'm daft for liking it. Crud.

For anyone who hasn't inhabited Earth and missed this one then it comes highly recommended as one of the best fantasy Romantic Comedy drama's with a fantastic soundtrack ranging from Roy Orbison's "Pretty Woman" from the title and Roxette's classic "It must have been Love"...Richard Gere plays an ultra wealthy business property tycoon Edward Lewis obsessed with the kill but lonely enough to employ the services of an apprentice hooker in Vivian Ward played by Julia Roberts only to find that love can be sought in the strangest places....Welcome to Hollywood and what's your dream...well Vivian wanted all or nothing whilst Edward just wanted a short hire and fire with no strings......what followed was one of the most chemistry based modern romantic comedy drama's of today..it's ... painful to watch because it uncompromisingly puts you in the head ( literally ) of the central character who can no longer talk and can hardly move - he can still look at women's breasts, which probably makes it even worse! When you realise that it's all true, and that he actually did get a book out by only blinking, it is heartwrenching. You just know it is going to end badly, unless you regard the book's publication as a vindication of the human spirit - I suppose it is , it's just that I didn't feel good about that.

when asked what my favourite film is ill invariably say disneys Robin hood and the blank looks on the questioners face normally is just a comon occurance that until they have seen the film they dont understand why its so good!
Children and adults alike will love this film, ok the graphics are dated but for 1973 they are very good, the story is jolly, heart warming and a great take on an old fable.
The characters are all animals which makes a change, they are all voiced amazingly and fitting to the animal in every way! The film isnt long but with small children thats ok and the music gets stuck in your head for a good day after seeing it!
Its a definate classic for families and for the disney lover this is a must have. if you havent seen it wtch it youll love ... Read More:
