50's third album has received a lot of negative press. From the delays, to the dud singles, to losing the sales race to Kanye's "Graduation". In fact the writing was on the wall on this album long before, when G-Unit releases (Mobb Deep, Lloyd Banks, Young Buck) started flopping. Tony Yayo beating on young kids did not help the G-Unit cause either. One could even argue that the split with Game which resulted in Dr. Dre's semi-retirement; or even Eminem's Kim inspired semi-retirement (Note that both Dre & Eminem are missing from the executive producer credits) all conspired to doom the album before it came out. That is if you consider 600K in your 1st week a failure.
On to the album. 50 Cent really outdoes himself on this one. ... Read More:

I didn't pick this album up until this year (2008) as I'm not normally into this kind of hip hop. I mainly listen to things like Talib Kweli, The Roots and other underground/intelligent stuff.
But I have to say I was surprised by this album, yes 50 raps about the stuff everyone else has said, but he does it in quite an intelligent way and over some dope beats. There are a number of standout tracks and this album is definitely worth listening to.
Just don't expect it to be A Tribe Called Quest, 'cos it definitely isn't. But if you take it for what it is you will enjoy it, and it's great for the car!

Following up one of the biggest debuts in hip-hop history, crack dealer turned charisma dealer 50 Cent makes some bold moves, recycles plenty of old ideas, and sprinkles in some perfect party singles for The Massacre. Crafty man that he is, 50 must have known following up the massive Get Rich or Die Tryin' was going to be extremely difficult, especially for a rapper rightfully known more for creating headlines than rhymes. To cushion the blow, 50 released an album by his G-Unit crew, made numerous guest appearances on other artist's tracks, and helmed ten mixtapes in his G-Unit Radio series. It kept the debut momentum moving and it's half the reason why The Massacre doesn't feel like Get Rich's proper successor, the other half being the album's effortless attitude. ... Read More:

This DVD contains a lot of features, many of which you will watch a lot more than one time. As well as roughly a 20 minute documentary on the life of 50 Cent and a Tony Yayo interview from his prison cell, viewers are treated to music videos, 'Making Of' music videos, performances from 50 Cent and Lloyd Banks in the studio ('Wanksta', 'In Da Club' and 'I call the shots round here') and best of all LIVE performances from the Detroit show in February 2003.
At the Detroit live show, 50 performed a number of great songs from his amazing set of tracks, and Eminem, Lloyd Banks, Obie Trice and D 12 also rapped on stage, which is all on this DVD. You'll see the crowd go wild as they perform songs such as 'U Not Like Me' and 'Wanksta' to name but a few. Obie makes ... Read More:

50 Cent is a superstar, and as i prefer his more 'gangsta' persona anyway, the mixtapes and underground songs he has done have always been better, however, this isn't the gem of an album i was expecting, after picking it up at quite an expensive price, i was thinking it would be an absoloute classic, as he was signed to shady on the strength of this, but although the album had killer songs on (Rotten Apple, That's whats up), it lacked something that made 50's debut a classic. I think this is because he didn't have the power of Dre and Em behind him, the quality isn't all that good and, although Nas, G Unit (But without Young Buck, which is a disapointment) and UGK appear, the strength of really good guests. Overall a strong album, but not all it's cracked up to be.
