This album is simply a must have for every self respecting thirty something. Albums like this hide in the background but when they're found they unleash a whole new wave of just how cool it was to have lived through the 80s. (assuming of course that New Romantic / electro was your thing)

"Photograph" is a classic and "I ran" just brilliant.

The Story of a Young Heart

This album marks the pinnacle of the career of one of the best known syntho bands of the 1980s. A chronological trip through the first three seagulls albums is a bit like taking a journey through adolescence. I still like the first album for its catchy simplicity, but 'Listen' was a clear improvement in terms of maturity. The single 'Transfer Affection' (from 'Listen') was a taster of what was to come on 'Young Heart'. Songs with pure melodies that you'll want to hear again and again but the robotic monotones of earlier material are gradually being usurped by vocals with substance, soul and passion. A Flock Of Seagulls self titled debut album was a release, in spite of greater commercial singles success, that they were never to top. Their story started in September 1981 with the release of first single 'Telecommunication' a catchy new romantic synth pop song. The single failed to chart and so two months later Jive records released a second single 'Modern Love Is Automatic'. While this also failed to chart, 'Automatic' certainly made a splash with new romantic fans and the band began to get talked about at least. It was with their profile on the rise that third single 'I Ran' was released. I Ran: the Best of Flock of Seagulls

As a completion album, it's not bad. The remixes are decent and worth taking a listen to. However, if you are after a Seagulls best of, don't get this one first. You would be better off picking one with a wider cross section of the Flock's original work.

However, I have given this album 4 stars, because the Seagulls are awesome. Furthermore, the original eight tracks that are on the album are classics; and remixes are well crafted.

Greatest Hits Remixed

This album has made me like A.F.O.S even more than I already did. All these mixes have re-sung vocals by Mike Score making it even more of a must-buy. Outstanding tracks are the versions of 'I Ran', 'Telecommunication' and 'Space Age Love Song'. The Mission's re-mix of 'The More You Live' is also great (and very atmospheric) and there is also a fantastic new take on 'Wishing', although the second version is nowhere near as good. The closing version of Space Age Love Song would stand up well in any Ibiza nightclub and 'The Traveller' is pure hardcore. I don't think of myself as a huge fan of modern dance music and I will admit to only knowing The Mission from amongst the many remixers; but that said, all the songs are treated with the respect they deserve ...
