Sadly someone obviously suggested to Robert Plant that this would be a good idea....recording a (mostly) countryesque album with Alison Krauss. They were wrong!! I have no problem with Plant (or anyone else for that matter) trying new things, but please..... this was a bad idea that should have stayed just that.... an idea!! Why on earth so many people feel the need to heap praise on this album is beyond me - it has no redeming qualities to my ears whatsoever - even if Robert Plant is involved.......come to think of it that old story of the Emporer's new clothes comes to mind!!

Alison Krauss I guess is one of those singers you either love or hate. She has a tonal quality that for me epitomises the very best in Bluegrass. This album is no exception. The sheer quality of her voice is at time unbelievable
and whilst it is true she veers away from pure bluegrass - her strength is that she can carry this off with huge credibility. I bought this album not only because I love Alison Krauss - but I heard her wonderful duet with James Taylor of "hows the world treating you?"- and simply had to have it! This is an old song recorded by Elvis in his early days - and hearing Alison and James brought back all those memories of wonderful songs, and meaningful lyrics. I also adore her version of "I'm just a country boy/girl" ... Read More:

Alison Krauss has one of the beautiful voices in modern music. But this album shows Union Station to be so much more than her stunning vocals. The stand out feature of this album is the musicianship of all members of the band. The addition of jerry douglas dobro has added a new layer to their compositions. This album is simply a must.

So many other reviews have so succinctly said what I fear I may fail to say. I was working her Birmingham 2005 concert when Restless stopped me in my tracks. As a Steward it is a rare, fine musical band that can cajole me into buying two of their CDs instantly, on the face of one beautiful song.....but am I glad!
AKUS's music could be for those gentle folk who do not want to admit to liking some country music. It could be for those who like exquisite harmonies and pure sound. Or it could simply be for those who love. If you've never been dumped.....if you've never felt crushed....if you've never looked into someone's eyes and seen their soul stare back, then for god's sake buy this album. You simply haven't lived.

this is a wonderful album from country singer Alison. Of worthy note, and my personal favourite is her cover of the Beatles song 'I will' sung so beautifully and movingly. Just such a beautiful album and highly recommended.
Release Date September 01, 1999
Renowned for her Bluegrass music and the support of her band Union Station Alison Krauss followed up her amazing album So Long So Wrong with something a little different.
This album contains a collection of mostly Pop standards a good number of which have been done before, but none so beautifully. Most members of Union Station are present on this album but merely as musicians and they show of their full musical diverstiy with the use of more modern instruments and a drum kit.
Alison's voice is as amazing as ever and she makes each and every track her own.
For me the stand out track is the Todd Rundgren Classic, "It Wouldn't Have Made Any Difference," a song also covered by Manhatten Transfer, but the version here just blows it's predecessors ... Read More:

Alison Krauss has done much to popularise bluegrass in recent years. Her early recordings were pure bluegrass – this (from 1992) was the last album of that phase of her career. Her more recent albums have included other influences but I enjoy those too, in a different way.
On this album, Alison and her band, Union Station, work their way through a selection of songs that are generally not well known despite several of them being cover versions. Many of these are old bluegrass songs, but they also include I don’t know why (Shawn Colvin) and Lose again (Karla Bonoff). There are also some original songs here including two by Sidney Cox (of the Cox family).
At the time, Union Station was made up of Tim Stafford (guitar), Ron Block (banjo – he also wrote ... Read More:
