Abide with Me - 50 Favourite Hymns

I have often listened to church music thinking to myself is it all manifested in the same place and released under different titles? However this selection 'hits the spot' with some great renditions of worshipful music and if you like to listen to part singing then cd 1 is excellent. There also some lovely descants some of which i had not heard before, an inspiring selection. Excellent.

Wilderness

Anderson has reached a new low with this album. Incredibly frustrating to listen to. I've given it three plays with an open mind in the hope some of it might grow on me, but no, there's nothing likeable about this album at all. It's a real shame considering some of his highlights of the past. If this was a debut you'd never hear of him again. With luck he'll be on form again for the next release.

Anderson has reached a new low with this album. Incredibly frustrating to listen to. I've given it three plays with an open mind in the hope some of it might grow on me, but no, there's nothing likeable about this album at all. It's a real shame considering some of his highlights of the past. If this was a debut you'd never hear of him again. With luck he'll be on form again for the next release.

Great set of numbers from the film. But whatever you do don't miss Trevor Jones'snippets of incidental music from the film. If you play them sequentially, without the main tracks, they form a coherent threead, with the theme developing through subtle change from bright and whimsical, through wistful, through to dramatic and doom laden. Those incidental snippets actually move me more than the main pieces, perhaps except for the masterful d'Oranjuez.

The Great British Experience

Other reviews will tell you of the close links (well documented with this double disc) of the light music pieces on this splendid compilation with famous radio and television shows of the (our? certainly my)past. What they don't mention is that a lot of these recordings have simply not been available to the public, but came from music publishers catalogues and CDs (the Bosworth discs are good).
The source material is superb here, the quality fantastic...
These are discs to be sought and savoured.

They truly do not compose or perform music like this any more.

Olias of Sunhillow

This has remained my favourite Jon Anderson creation. I was there at it's birth, my older brother bought it, when it came out. Each member of Yes released a solo album, this was far the best.When he was playing it I grew to love it more and when he was out, then I was playing it. Jon Anderson at his magical best. It is like being in the dwarves mine in Snow White, gems are everyway, some hidden and but the majority are there on view.
