This is one of my favourite CD's from the early nineties.
There's a tenderness and maturity to the songs here which hasn't dated one bit.
Everyone I know who loves this album has a different track as their favourite and the superb production bringing out all the emotion in Annie's singing.
The songs are sung with a heartfelt honesty that's still refreshing to hear, with almost none of the "pop production" that could spoil some of the Eurithmics recordings. "Money can't Buy It" and "Little Bird" are audio dem-room classics too.
At the prices here, I'd sincerely recommend you give this a try - it deserves to be in every CD collection.

There is only one review here at the time of writing this - Amazon.com has sixty three by comparison.
The americans seem to rate Annie Lennox more highly than we do for some reason. Strange. Maybe it's the CD cover that puts people off, who knows.
If you're a Eurythmics fan or have Diva or Bare you'll find this album is very different. At first, I didn't like it.
It grows on you. Simply put, it's gorgeous. Annie's voice is wonderful she puts so much soul into it, the Britney's of this world eat your heart out. The arrangements are deceptively simple and take second stage to Annie's voice, and thats exactly as it should be. The choice of songs here are lovely and at the risk of repeating myself Annie's voice is ... Read More:

This cd by Annie is really good, Dark Road should have been a huge hit in the UK, but unfortunatley was overlooked. OK i got absolutley bashed from all sides about reviewing the Sing single, but i can not take to that track. A track that holds the line "what wont kill you will you make strong", about HIV in Africa, well i dont know about Africa, but been an HIV carrier in UK is certainly gonna kill me and make me weaker, so i can not hold that track seriously within. However the rest of the cd is really really good. Womankind and Through The Glass Darkly are potential No.1's, these are so cute they are old style Annie, and avid fans will love them. If i was reviewing Medusa here it would definatley have got 5 stars, but Annie's music has matured with ... Read More:

Annie's scary, powdered face looking out at me, the angst of the songs clearly evident in the titles alone ... but wait, this is wonderful, moving, beautiful music which speaks to me deeply on every listen. Forget 'Medusa' which was fairly thin gruel, this is the real deal - profound, energised, intelligent, synth-based music. Buy it (especially with the DVD thrown in). It's a thousand beautiful things.

Being a complete Annie fan right from the days of The Tourists, I always get a real sense of anticipation when I hear that Ms Lennox is chucking out another album. I heard about this one some time before the release date and loved the title. It's a stab at the whole WMD and Anglo-American war on terror. In this vein, Dark Road, the first single released from the album continues with it's subtle chastisement of America and it's myopic world view. Annie is a clever one! even the video in which she potrays the defunct and powerless heroine witnessing the plight of those less fortunate in the richest country in the world she does so with a grace not found in any other contemporary singer. The song itself is a tour of Annie's vocal talent and eloquently displays her ... Read More:
