This album is fantastic.Have a few concept type albums and this one is a sheer pleasure to listen to.The sound quality is excellent and the tracks superb.Music is futuristic,spacey,loud.heavy,and rocky in nature.I have quite a large collection of cds and this one is just great.Musicians on album are superb.I think if you like good quality heavy and rock style music you will really enjoy this rock opera.Play Loud it will blow you away.Just listen to the guitar work woooowwwwww;A must buy for your collection.

Into the Electric Castle

Got a few albums from Ayreon and love em all.This one is superb and full of wonderful and interesting music mee old mate Fish is on album as well streching his pipes lovely stuff.Album is done in the traditional way of Ayreon so if you like the sound of the concept album from this maestro with great musicians and songs treat yourself to this fantastic album.Sound quality on album is superb and begs to be played loud.A must buy for your concept collection.

The Human Equation

I purchased this CD a few months ago, after reading plenty of reviews on various sites........I am a massive fan of Rock / Prog Rock / Prog Metal, and in my honest opinion I have witnessed better composed productions at my children's primary school. This CD is complete and utter drivel of the highest order. It's just one cliche after another. How talent like James LaBrie can lower himself to this level is beyond belief. Forget this garbage.....stick to Dream Theater. Did I sell my copy ? God no - I wouldn't DARE palm this rubbish onto another human being......I binned it.

Ok, Don't get me wrong this is a great album. I love the concepts, the choice in singers (Floor Jansen, Jorn Lande and Steve Lee owned this album!) But it is no way his best. At times it sounds like he is re-hashing old ideas from past albums. To me the Human Equation was the best so far I had great hopes that this would top it but unfortunatly it doesn't have the edge.

Hopefully Arjen can learn from this album and be a touch more original next time! (or maybe another Ambeon album? nudge nudge!)

The Final Experiment

Ok, Don't get me wrong this is a great album. I love the concepts, the choice in singers (Floor Jansen, Jorn Lande and Steve Lee owned this album!) But it is no way his best. At times it sounds like he is re-hashing old ideas from past albums. To me the Human Equation was the best so far I had great hopes that this would top it but unfortunatly it doesn't have the edge.

Hopefully Arjen can learn from this album and be a touch more original next time! (or maybe another Ambeon album? nudge nudge!)

I've been a fan of Arjen A Lucassen since Electric Castle. His works just seem to get better and better. This is possibly the heaviest Ayreon CD to date, which isn't a bad thing. There are still plenty of hooks and melodies, more so than Human Equation I think. The opening track, Age of Shadows, just won't leave my brain - crunching rhythms, powerful chorus and some beautiful haunting melodies in the middle section.

I find the first CD 'Y' to be significantly better than the second 'Earth', where I think the music suffers at the expense of the narrative on a couple of tracks. This isn't too bad if you're following the story from the lyric book, which you really have to do if you want to distinguish between the performers. As usual for Ayreon, the chosen ... Read More:

Very disappointed in this. If you are a fan of the Human Equation or Into the Electric Castle you'll also be disappointed
Too many tracks lacking a change of pace with heavy rifts not backed up with the usual synth and guitar passages.
The only reason I give this 2 stars is the somewhat unexpected brilliance of Waking Dreams, oh if only there had been more tracks like this one.

The Human Equation: +DVD/Special Edition

OK, the positive side of this album is the singers. They are talented and who knows them from other bands know that they are good.

Everything else about this album is a shame. Plain predictable lyrics, almost no musical depth or complexity... It feels like it was designed to give more of a theatrical experience (with something to watch as well) than a musical experience, as after two or three tracks I was bored out of my head and couldn't listen to it any more.

The Final Experiment

If you are familar with Ayreon and you like it, you can't pass up the opportunity to own this album. Whilst not a good as the genius of 'Into the Electric Castle' this is quality release from Arjen. Familiar Ayreon trademarks abound, numerous singers, excellent musical arrangements and a spacey-fantasy type feel. If you don't mind music that's a bit abstract in its story, go for this. Personally I don't read much into lyrics; I focus on the music, and for prog fans this is a real treat.

Recommended.
