Talking Elephant have issued a deluxe version of this CD in June 2008. I have the deluxe version myself and it is really nicely packaged, although all the music is the same as on this release. Amazon's Product Description for the new disc explains the history of this album, and what you get with the new release. So you can check it out I quote from it here:
"Album Description
LARK RISE TO CANDLEFORD was originally
released in 1980 on vinyl and had a very brief short release on CD in 1991. Since then it has become one of those traditionally British gems hidden away in the closet of time..... UNTIL NOW.
The album was re-issued on Talking Elephant in July 2006 and now all of the artwork has been lovingly ... Read More:

It's debatable whether you need to pay extra and get the Deluxe reissue of the Allmans' classic live CD, but there's no doubting the quality of the original. The first four tracks reveal a tight blues unit giving equal prominence to all band members. It isn't surprising that Eric Clapton played alongside Duane Allman on 'Layla'. The band's sound bears a close resemblance to that which Clapton would later employ, except that it's more exciting and intense. Even so, these first few tracks are like a warm-up for what follows. After a great rendition of 'Stormy Monday', they turn on their best style. The lengthy, jazz-inflected 'Elizabeth Reed' and even longer 'You Don't Love Me Baby' are top vintage Allmans, while the closer 'Midnight Rider' is one ... Read More:

A great collection of Christmas tunes, no 'overkill' on the arrangements. The only thing I would point out is that, there are very few hymns on this cd, Silent Night, Adeste Fideles, etc are all absent. Other than that a 'must have' cd for Yule Time.

I was given this CD as a present about 3 years ago, and it hasn't come out of the car since! These are amazing songs: 'I did it' rocks out, 'Space between' is just beautiful. I really don't think there is a single second-rate track on it. The lyrics are excellent poetry, the band is comprised of wonderful, jazzy, funky, virtuosic musicians, who play with soul and enthusiasm, the tunes are catchy, and the rhythyms involving.
On the strength of that CD, I bought the new one - Stand Up - which is perhaps not quite as good, but still pretty darn fabby. And then I got the others.
Looking at the band's work as a whole, it becomes clear the production values on this album are rather different from the DMB's previous albums ... Read More:

This may not be The Band in their late 60's heyday, but along with their 4th LP Cahoots this album is vastly underrated by reviewers and fans alike. It is probably worth 4.5 stars. A great collection of songs and musicianship of consistent quality throughout.

Great set of numbers from the film. But whatever you do don't miss Trevor Jones'snippets of incidental music from the film. If you play them sequentially, without the main tracks, they form a coherent threead, with the theme developing through subtle change from bright and whimsical, through wistful, through to dramatic and doom laden. Those incidental snippets actually move me more than the main pieces, perhaps except for the masterful d'Oranjuez.
