A tremendous collection of each British Army Regiment's own 'signature' tune.
From well known marches like 'The Radetsky' to lesser known tunes like 'The days we went a gipsying', they are all beautifully played by the Band of the Coldstream Guards in quicktime pace, ( 116 beats per minute ).
Together with Vol. 2, these great recordings will turn your living room into Horse Guards Parade !

This is a collection of songs sung by Paul Carrack- the most famous singer that no-one appears to have heard of! Paul was the lead singer of Squeeze and Mike and the Mechanics amongst others and wrote the wonderful "How Long" when he was in the band 'Ace.'
If you like Christmassy songs then this CD is for you. Paul Carrack has a wonderful soulful voice and this album is made with a large "big band" sound.
If you haven't already bought it for this Christmas, then buy it for next.

I discovered The Band through being a fan of Bob Dylan. The story goes that one night they were at a venue and were asked who they were, and they answered, "We're The Band," as they were still with Dylan at the time.
This is a nice foray into traditional American, semi-country music with a very homely feel and some really moving and profound lyrics. It's easy to listen to but also stimulating and thought provoking.
The song which introduced me to their music was The Night They Drove Old Dixie down, and when I started listening to this album, I realised there were a few other tracks I know and I suspect the same would apply to most people who are just starting to get into the music of The Band. Examples are Rag Mama ... Read More:

At last, quality reissues of all the Bonzos' albums - it's hard to believe that the only one previously issued separately on CD was Gorilla. The Cornology box valiantly collected (nearly) all the previously available material into one place but these reissues are the real deal - superbly remastered and packaged, augmented with bonus tracks that are worth listening to more than twice, and featuring extremely droll sleeve notes by surviving joint chief Bonzo Neil Innes.
Doughnut was the second Bonzos album, and the first on which they sank their razor sharp parodic teeth into rock music in a big way - while it is extremely diverse stylistically, the music hall and novelty dance band covers and trad jazz parodies to be found on the preceding ... Read More:

Loved this! True in spirit and execution to the memory of our beloved Bonzo's. Only thing missing of course is the great one, Vivian, now crooning lovingly to his old Victrola up in the big blue.
Complete with adverts, clarinet, tuba, banjo, songs of heartbreak, singing saw, spoon solo, nimble piano and a pinch of french for good measure.
Put on your headphones and listen to this all the way through.
It flows together seamlessly with no air between songs. doesn't it.
With pause instructions at disc's mid-way point to simulate the turning over of your old black plastic as in those farflung days.
Blithering musicanship.
Stark vocals. Lunacy. Great songs.
Exquisite readings/narration/great fun.

Grow Your Own, the latest offering from British Roots trio The Martin Harley Band, is their most accessible offering to date. The band have already gathered themselves a sizeable following, earned through their tireless work ethic and no- holds- barred live shows, and this album seems set to capitalise on this impressive reputation. It sees them transcend their Blues roots and broaden their sonic pallette, allying an undeniable pop sensibilty to fine musicianship and classic songwriting talent. Tracks such as the touring tale One For The Road and the title track have a real emotional and melodic depth only hinted at by previous recordings. Elsewhere the employment of strings and brass serve to accentuate the band's progression and mastery of their craft.

In is only of recent times that I got to know about this band and what a surprise. They were contemporaries of the beatles and yet they are so little known. Their songs are full of great lyrics with many twist in the accompanying musical score. The Scottish influence shows through and they can be described as early pioneers in world music with daring to be different. Take the time to listen to the lyrics one time, they are really interesting!

Steve Miller was one of the highlights of any school or Uni disco in the mid to late seventies for us rockers. All the classics and more - they sound as good now as they did then - smooth production, great rhythm, and a back beat to make you boogie.
Turn up the volume and tear up the carpet.
