Comparisons with Portishead are unavoidable, but completely unsuccesfull. This cd constists of two kinds of songs. 1) Great songs, dare I say masterpieces (Mysteries, Tom the model, Fummy time of year) and 2) Almost great songs (all the rest). This is definetely not an album that'll wake you up in the morning, it's MEANT to be played late at night, to let Beth's voice haunt your late hours, and why not, close your eyes and travel with your mind to the places she sings of. Out of Seasonby: Beth Gibbons & Rustin Man Release Date If you were a fan a Portishead you will not be disapointed with Beths new work, her hauntingly soulful voice has at last met is match with rustin man's enchanting acoustic melodies and the outcome is just stunning. whilst that Portishead vibe is still just lingering in the background of a few tracks this is far more up-beat. cry's of "Nobody loves me" have been replaced by "God knows how much I adore life" This album is hard to compare to anything out there,but I suppose if you crossed Dido with Nina Simone, the chill out after a truly great night out and a large plate of comfort food you might get close.
