Brian Ferry as a singer songwriter I can take or leave.Roxy Music in small doses.Ferry as an artist who does stacks of cover versions? Yes definitely.
The Dylan collection is not the first time he dabbled in Dylan as A hard rain's gonna fall was made in 1974 in a radical makeover which was more Barry McGuire than Bob Dylan-whose original had been acoustic.
Purists may object but then they aren't the ones who'd have the imagination Ferry has.
For a start this is more a label of love. Its never going to be any sort of chart record unless public taste moves back to where it was before the 80s.
I now look forward to Ferry doing a Beatles covers album

Tex it's not MEANT to hold your attention.
The clue is in the title "Music for Airports".
This is a concept first thought of by Eric Satie with his "wallpaper" music, but only properly realised by the unsung, under-appreciated and absolute genius that is Brian Eno. This is music you can do anything to - go through customs; paint the ceiling; wash the car. Don't think, just enjoy.
If you think you haven't heard anything by Eno think again. A ridiculous proportion of the really great albums issued since the early seventies have had some sort of input from him. But he has taken music out of its little box and delivered it to where you live without you knowing it. The BBC have an extensive library of incidental sounds and ... Read More:

The atmospheres, textures, spaces, and other worldly sounds of this album are staggering. All other attempts at a "World" music seem to me slight by comparison.
There is deep unease in this album; like another reviewer in these pages, I cannot help but be struck by the prescience of the piece, capturing an African/Arabian world ill at-ease under the yoke of what were then growing global American and other western interests.
The narratives of Byrne's "Remain in Light" have now been jettisoned in favour of sonic landscapes which perfectly evoke another world, real or imagined, far more vividly even than the brilliant "Listening Wind" from the Talking Heads disc.
Eno showed too how he could move from the cold, stark world of eastern Europe in ... Read More:

This is a great album and probably my favorite from Brian Eno. It has that dreamy music that is from out of this world. Good for use in trance work and healing sessions in general, as relaxes client and therapist alike. As with much New Age music, this one in particular is timeless.

I first bought this vinyl lp as it was released way back when and was, at the time, blown away with it. It is probably the ultimate glamrock record in a most understated way. It could even be one of those best ever recordings that we hear about every now and then but with which we rarely agree. This is a true statement of art.
For those who disagree, take a listen to Baby's On Fire and then watch the film Velvet Goldmine. Take a listen to Blank Frank on a powerful Hi-Fi with the volume cranked right up. I dare you to relive the lipstick and fur.

I first heard "Another Green World" in the ambience of a rich mate's bedroom in Thorpe Bay, Southend, sometime in 1975. I was introduced at the same time to "Evening Star", Eno's collaboration with Robert Fripp. That I recall this moment with such clarity says something of the impact the work of Brian Eno had and still has on me. Without AGW there'd've been no "Low" and "Heroes" from Bowie two years later, the punk-new wave fusion that sporned New Romanticism and Electronica. AGW still stands as one of the great experimental, eclectic albums ever, with its understated, gentle journeying between the quirky lyrical surrealism and obscura observances of the whimsically woven songs, and the almost quaint impressionist revelations of the obvious with its proto-ambient soundscapes. ... Brian Eno is a genius....discuss. Actually don,t bother. There is no need for discussion here. Brian Eno IS a genius. Take his 1974 album Taking Tiger Mountain By Strategy . Following up his debut solo album "Here Comes The Warm Jets" this album bridges the gap between the overt oblique pop of his debut and the ambient trickling of his next album "Another Green World". "Before And After Science" his 1977 masterpiece apart TTMBY is the best of the conventional ( non ambient ) albums.
The album was recorded using a stable set of musicians .Eno on vocals, keyboards, guitar and electronics , Phil Manznera on guitars, Brian Turrington on bass, Freddie Smith on drums and Robert Wyatt on percussion and backing vocals. Various guest artists include Phil Collins ( Drums on "Mother Whale ... Read More:

After reading all the other reviewers intellectual drivel I thought I would just say that if you have never heard a brian eno record then this is a great place to start. The 10 tracks on this cd show exactly why brian eno is one of the greatest british artists of all time.
I've owned this on vinyl for 15 years and then on cd for 10 and it sounds as good today as it did when it was first released.

Evocative of autumn walks in fields and woods - I grew up in a small Cheshire village and The Pearl always takes me back to that place. My only bugbear is that some of the pieces aren't longer but I guess that's due partly to the media of the time being vinyl/cassette. A gem.
