Fashion Nugget is full of songs that will make you want to smile and to sing-a-long. It's clever, fun and querky, blending a range of styles from disco (Gloria Gaynor - I Will Survive), to easy listing (Doris Day - Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps) to a little bit of country (Sad Songs and Waltzes) and light-hearted guitar-pop (Stick Shifts & Safety Belts, Italian Leather Sofa) into an inventive and entertaining pop album.

This CD was produced to raise money for the Irish arm of the Oxfam Charity who help people in the developing world to help themselves and work their way out of poverty.
So its all in a good cause isn't it?
Yes
The problem is I'm wary of charity records, most of the time they simply aren't up to scratch.
It's a pleasure to tell you that isn't the case here - in fact this is a corker!
It helps that the cream of Ireland's songwriters and performers are in on the act.
Members of Bell X1, Glen Hansard of the Frames, Gemma Hayes, Emm Gryner, Damien Rice, Neil Hannon of The Divine Comedy, Conor Deasy of the Thrills, and so on. The lists is a who's who of quality Irish music. ... Read More:

I'm always wary of a new Cake album, afraid that they may not be able to live up to the legacy of their previous outings. But once again I am relieved and amazed, as somehow they've done it again! I have no idea how John McCrea and the rest of the band are able to come up with wonderful, quirky and though-provoking songs time and again, but thank God they do! Pressure Chief comes as such a welcome relief in a musical climate so dominated by banality and mediocrity. It would be foolish to try and single out any one song as being the albums high point (that has always been one of Cake's strong points- the fact that all their songs are at least damn good, and most are frequently brilliant), but rest assured the quality of songs on the album ... A mix of covers, live versions and a couple of their own non-album tracks makes this a very enjoyable listen. It is quirky, instantly catchy and interesting to see what they do with the cover tracks. If you like Cake, you certainly won't be disappointed - if you don't know them, maybe try one of the other albums first.

This cd has the contents of a classic. Not many people in England have heard of cake, but i can guarantee u, that it will propbably one of the greatest cd's you've ever heard. If u do buy this cd (which i strongly recommed), listen to it at least 4 times in a row. When u listen to it for the first time, u won't be appreciating the music, just listening out for the lyrics. The second time round, you'll be thinking what a great band they are. By the third time, you'll be dancing round the sitting room, grooving to their funky beat. The fourth time round, you'll be truely hooked on this exellent band, and will want to listen to their cd at least 5 times a day. i must warn you, if you're one of those people who only listen to britney spears, boyzone ... Cake have been close to creating their perfect record a few times over. Fashion Nugget and Prolonging The Magic had some superb indie-pop on them. The problem was that alongside great stuff like Friend Is A Four Letter Word or Never There were songs that simply didn't do too much. And with John McCrea's deadpan monotone delivery songs could meld into one another creating a melody that sounded much the same as the last song. So it's a pleasant surprise that Comfort Eagle doesn't have a bum note on it. It's everything McCrea has promised and more. Short Skirt/Long Jacket sounds like vintage Beck. The title track is a superb grooving rocker with perfectly pitched horns and echoed vocals. Long Line Of Cars is one of the most perfect pop songs I have had the ... Read More:

The joy of the modern internet age is that you find yourself discovering bands that you would otherwise have never heard of in a million years. Of course it's not always a good thing, but the positives outweigh the negatives.
A case in point are Chicago natives Sea And Cake. They are already on their seventh studio album, but this week I heard them for the first time. Frankly though, if I'd heard it without prior warning I would have been convinced that we were being transported back into the 1970's. But whilst Bread and Steely Dan might not be the "coolest" of reference points similar influences haven't done the Feeling any harm, and it doesn't do any harm to Sea And Cake either.
What we are presented with is a series of mostly up ... Read More:

I haven't given this record five stars because that's too easy. Anyone can attempt to talk up an album by tacking the largest number of available stars onto a review. But why? Perfection is never achieved, should indeed not be achievable by any credible artist. Perfection is dull. Perfection hides the creative force of art behind a patina of pseudo-scietific purity. "Motorcade of Generosity", on the most other of hands, crawls around on the floor, dirtying itself in an aural reality. Cake - like Pavement - make music that is so gorgeously off key that it resembles at once the energetic beginnings of a band locked away in a basement room, trying to master their own sound, and the remnants of a eidetic performance heard through the fog ...
