The Cold Vein

Too often I've read over-zealous reviews on here and have been disappointed after buying and playing the cd a few times. I agree with the person above: the same thing happened to me a couple of years ago when I originally picked up 'The Cold Vein' - I foolishly left the cd languishing at the bottom of my pile after first listening 'cos I couldn't get my head around the production/beats or even the rhymes. It pains me now to think how long it took me to give Can Ox another spin.

Put simply, this is without a doubt one of the best albums I own, certainly the best hip-hop album. It's worth buying for 'Iron Galaxy' alone - surely the best intro to any hip-hop album ever?

Cannibal Oxtrumentals

A lot of instrumental hip hop albums suffer from being a dull collection of beats and loops once the lyricists have been taken out of the equation. Not so here. Produced by the prolific El-P (Aesop Rock, Company Flow, Definitive Jux Records), this set comprises instrumental versions of all the tracks on Cannibal Ox's mighty Cold Vein LP. The sound develops the robotic-funk blueprint El-P developed with Company Flow, so on "Ox out the Cage" we get the epic synth sweeps of Vangelis' Blade Runner sountrack overlayed with Warp-style bleeps 'n beeps while "Alpha B-Boy" is all jittery beats and electronic feedback. i agree with the previous two reviews.. but would like to add extra depth concerning the RJD2 Remix.. Instrumental version.

its a very simple remix, but works amazingly well without the vox, stands up against anything else.. really, this is awesome.
