Like many of the reviewers I spent part of my childhood with my mum and step dad playing Crowded House every other hour. At the time I was far to obsessed with keeping my attempted image to want anything to do with what my mum liked. Now over ten years on I noticed this CD for cheap on Amazon and recalled some of the songs in my head which was just enough to tempt me into a purchase. I am glad I did.
I can honestly say that of all my music as an overall album this greatest hits has to be one of the best CD's I own. This is one of the few CD's where I can put it on and have the certainty that every song I hear will excel. If you like me ignored this band in the 90's due to being too young to appreciate the music you should definitely ... Read More:

This album does take a few listens I admit, but there are a few tracks which I loved instantly-She walked her way down being one of them along with Silent House.
I hate to say it-but I actually skipped through Transit Lounge after hearing the intro. But it IS really good, quite different but certainly not worth skipping! I liked the woman's ooh's and aah's on it too.
All in all, a great album. Went to see them live in Cardiff last Dec and it was definitely a memorable night! I was only a kid in the days of Woodface-Recurring Dream so being able to watch a band I never thought I would see live was truly, a treat.

Woodface is the record that broke Crowded House in the UK and most of Europe. It's also one of the finest albums of the 90's and more than deserved its high sales and 4 big hit singles. Starting life as a solo Finn Brothers collection the project quickly morphed into a full blown Crowded House album full of gorgeous, beautifully crafted Beatlesque songs. It's fair to say that the Finn brothers fully embraced the fab four comparisons on Woodface and ran with it.
Four Season's In One Day, Fall At Your feet, Its Only Natural and the smash Weather With You sound as catchy and melodic as they first did over 15 years ago. But there is so much more to Woodface than the hits - Whispers and Moans, How Will You Go and Shes Goes On are terrific ballads, Tall Trees is punchy powerpop ... Read More:

This is by far the most popular Crowded House album in the States. It includes the huge classic Don't Dream It's Over & another lesser hit, Something So Strong. Despite there being other fine tunes on the album such as Mean To Me and Now We're Getting Somewhere, the overall quality does not match in any way what was still to come, merely hints at what would make Crowded House such a great band
This is not to say that the rest are filler tracks. If the last tunes are excluded, most songs are catchy with great texts. The production of many of them has, however, quickly dated. Case in point is the catchy Can't Carry On, influenced with the then current 80s sound heavy with synth and tin sounding production. And despite being very tuneful, many songs simply lacked depth ... Like some others already posted on here, I will be retiring my VHS copy of this concert. The atmosphere is just brilliant, and I really wish I could have been there to see the event live. We finally caught up with them on their tour this year, and saw them at Thetford with a small 6000people crowd. Having qued for sometime, it was worth it to be right at the front. Although they are all looking slightly older, the old crowded house was still there (although now with a new drummer Known as Max Shredder (ex beck drummer) after the sad suicide of paul Hester) and with a great listing of old and some new stuff they were just superb.
Looking foward to trying to see them again next year, as I am again now a totally hooked crowded house fan. Definately a must see group and a must see DVD. ... Read More:

Crowded House's follow up to their career defining Woodface album was an altogether darker and less immediate record. Songwriter in chief Neil Finn hired hip producer Youth with the idea of creating a more organic and less polished collection. The Beatles influences are still in evidence but Together Alone is a far more adventurous record full of strange instruments, dense melodies and lashings of Finn's KIWI heritage.
The album was another huge success in the UK and spawned an impressive 5 top 30 singles. Multi-instrumentalist Mark Hart was drafted in, as a replacement for the departed Tim Finn, and his supreme musicality also helped to make Together Alone such an accomplished collection.
'Distant Sun', 'Pineapple Head' and 'Locked Out' provided a triplet of uptempo singles whilst the ballads ... Read More:

This was the album that brought me to Crowded House, and it's brilliance hasn't dimmed with time. The music is darker than people expect, but is much better for it.It contains alot of their best music, such as Into Temptation,Love This Life and the under-rated Mansion In The Slums.
Having seen them at Wembley recently,i don't think there's any reason why they won't reach these heights again.
I think Together Alone and Time On Earth are great albums, with tracks as good as what appear on Temple Of Low Men,but this is just perfect.
So if you have to pick a Crowded House CD this is where to start.
Release Date February 07, 2000
This was the last Crowded House album missing from my collection, and I was reluctant to splash out on it - it's a collection of B-sides and tracks cut from other albums. How wrong I was to neglect it.
The opener 'I am in love' for example would have sounded entirely at home on Together Alone, with the trademark catchy chorus and excellent guitar work so characteristic of Crowded House. Next up is the upbeat and swinging 'sacred cow', which is somewhat similar to Sister Madly (from Temple of Low Men).
The album continues with generally high quality songs, and there really aren't that many weak points. There's a beautiful acoustic version of 'Private universe', and Paul Hester's contribution 'My telly's gone bung', a marvellous song about a broken televison.
