Black Sunday made Cypress Hill's connection to rock & roll more explicit, with its heavy metal-like artwork and noisier, more dissonant samples (including, naturally, stoner icons Black Sabbath). It's a slightly darker affair than its groundbreaking predecessor, with the threats of violence more urgent and the pot obsession played to the hilt (after all, it was a crucial part of their widespread appeal). Apart from those subtle distinctions, the sound of Black Sunday is pretty much the same as Cypress Hill, refining the group's innovations into an accessible bid for crossover success. In fact, it's a little startling how often Black Sunday recycles musical ideas and even lyrical catch phrases from the endlessly inventive debut. And the rock ... Read More:

When people think of Cypress Hill i guess they would (YAWN) think of "insane in the brain". But people out there who obviously know their stuff would be more likely to recommend this album which doesn't have THAT single on it. Point being, this album is their best.. best beats, best sound, best lyrics, its all there and you won't be disappointed
Release Date April 24, 2000
right then a double album where the two discs reflect the different styles that the guys want to play. good idea but does it work? well um yes very well you dont get the mixture and variety vibe like you did on iv but instead you get to shake your ass to top drawer hip hop on the skull disc and bang your head to metal on the bones disc. the best bit is the sheer fact that it seems like the boys are showing off by doing hip hop thats as good as ever and then teaching the nu-metal boys a lesson by writing hip hop/metal songs that easily outstrip the childish fumblings of limp bizkit and linkin park. bizkit and park wish they had a song half as good as rock superstar and the sister song rap superstar leaves the gangsta competition looking like chumps too. mission ... Throughout their long career, Cypress Hill have been rightfully considered as pioneers in the rap and hip-hop scene, accorded the same reverence reserved for the likes of NWA, Public Enemy and Run DMC.
Their constant advocacy of marijuana use and legalisation was what first attracted notoriety, fortunately over time they have left a much better heritage musically. Their clever deployment of slow rolling bass and drum lines- a technique also used by Dr. Dre and Massive Attack- has become common place in rap. They were amongst the first to fuse rap with heavy metal and form “nu-metal”; and in more recent times they have integrated reggae and latino influences into their work. For all this they must be praised.

the boys are evolving and this is where it all seems to begin as the basslines start to get bolstered with guitar riffs and the much more prominant use of sampled strings to form the melodies starts to kick in. the raps are still there and at the high end of quality, the humour is starting to kick back in again witness Dr.Greenthumb (awesome song) and the boys sound vital again not paranoid not overwhelmed but enjoying the game. probably helps that this album was recorded with the fresh return of sen dog and b-real had got the last of his issues out of the way on the psycho realm project (well worth checking out too) and they could all return to their day jobs.
Release Date March 22, 2004
well well the boys are still going and the rock and metal stylings of the last few albums have been abandonned in exchange for ska and reggae. and it works although it takes a few listens to sink in. thatsaid though this the first cypress album in a long time that has got some terrible songs on it stuff like the ganja bus is just terrible i mean it makes you wanna cringe but then again theres songs like whats your number? and once again and another boddy drops where the beats flow so smoothly you find yourself tapping your foot and you dont even realise. overall not bad but they need another top album soon.

They're past their best. In fact, they've probably been past their best for a long time.
Last years "Live At The Filmore" contained a handful of recent songs, and was comprised almost in its entireity of choice cuts from the first two albums. Only two songs from the return-to-form "Skull N Bones" were on that. The new one follows much the same path as "Skull N Bones" - a handful of promising tracks recorded with the rock band SX-10 that showcase a unique, and intriguing style - and the majority of the rest are fairly unadventurous, dated hip hop tracks, relying on tired beats, samples from previous records, and uninspiring mixing. There's samples off "Insane In The Brain" and even a song called "Here Is Something You Can't Understand"... living off Past Glories. ... Read More:
