Set The Mood

I bet David Jordan gets a bit fed up with the "artist formerly known as" and the one-album-wonder that was T-T-D'arby comparisons. Let's give the guy a chance to enjoy his 1st album on the shelves before we consign him to either superstardom or bargain bin album no.2. He has a great R'n'B voice and strong songwriting skills - at least four or five good singles on the cd.
I was lucky enough to get this cd for my birthday after raving about the "Sun Goes Down" video to my girlfriend. I like the pace of the album, the opening track has a great guitar intro and sets up a groove that carries through to the stand-out track, Sun Goes Down, a great big bouncy track with loads of layers of rythm and sounds.

When i first heard Sun Goes Down i wasn't sure to think but within a couple of listens i was completely hooked. With an infectious chorus leading into the song, the beat kicks in and that's it, you're putty in David's hands. His skill as a songwriter is high commendable, his influences ranging far and wide, ensuring there is something here for everyone to like.

He looks damn cool in the video for this too, it's got a real fun, glam feel to it and fits the track perfectly. B-side 'Finest of Ways' is equally high quality and shows a completely different side to David, this time showcasing his great voice on a laid-back soul number. Simply the Best Classical Anthems

A selection of snippets, a taste test, a combi meal of classical anthems. Ideal for the first time classical virgin but not the full bodied classical feast that was expected. It's a shame to expect to be listening to a comprehensive selection of the worlds finest classical music to find that the start, end and most of the rest has been cut out of some wonderful pieces of music to leave only the bit that anyone who doesn't nip out for a cup of tea as soon as the adverts come on television would recognise. OK, so how did I expect them to get 38 full versions of classical pieces of music onto a double CD?, well, my mistake.

Move On

'Move On' will be David Jordan's 3rd single from 'Set the Mood' and if I'm being upfront... this is my favourite yet, even though the brilliant 'Sun Goes Down' has buried itself deep into my psyche.

'Move On' is probably more representative of David's live set which is much rockier than his previous releases would suggest. I first saw DJ supporting Unklejam last year, he knocked me out totally, he's such a vibrant and exciting performer!! Traditionally 3rd singles don't seem to chart as highly, coz by then if you like the what you hear - you'll buy the album, but wait.. you won't get the B side 'Ghost Train' on the album and IMHO it's a blistering tune, I saw him play it live a couple of weeks ago at ICA in London. This collection of some of the sacred choral music written by William Mathias is beautifully sung and extremely well-recorded.

The programme is well-balanced and includes some of Mathias's more virtuosic works for choir, which demand and receive articulate, well-tuned and dynamic performances from the Gloriae Dei Cantores and their director Elizabeth Patterson. Most of the works have received few performances, to my knowledge, and even fewer recordings.

The performers are well-known as exponents of Gregorian chant, but their commitment to and belief in all styles of choral music clearly shines through in these rivetting performances.

One of many recent graduates from the BRIT school in Croydon (Kate Nash, Leona Lewis included), David Jordan, who has rubbed shoulders with the cream of UK talent before now such as Amy Winehouse, arrives as Mercury Records' exciting new pop signing of 2007 and future big hitting male vocalist for 2008. "Place In My Heart" is certainly one of the more capitvating pop releases of late - it's got a unique mixture of 80's Prince, Justin Timberlake and Michael Jackson all sung in a excellent falsetto range that you will be trying to emulate for days on end. Shayne Ward, take note: this is what your pathetic excuse for a comeback single should have sounded like. Expect great things for this, and debut album "Set The Mood" out on 5th November.
