Songs From The Sparkle Lounge

Lets face facts,Def Leppards last good album was Hysteria.This band was what started it all off for me so I still have some respect for them,but like Bon Jovi(which I own nothing by) they haven't put out a solid album since the 80's.If Whitesnake can do it then I'm sure Def Leppard can.
Its a shame because there are so many good bands out there that deserve more attention like Bonfire,Gotthard and Great White to name but a few.Why do people say that an album is good just because its been written by their favourite artist.If its bad its bad end of...I like the Scorpions but their Eye to Eye release was shocking and same goes for Judas priests Jugulator.
I hope they deliver an album for the fans next time and don't leave it too long ... Read More:

Hysteria

It's not often that I buy a CD just because I'm going to a gig and want to know the words, but I did with this one...and I've listened to it so many times I know most of the words to the songs! In all honesty, this is one of the best albums I have ever listened to, never mind bought, and as such, I wholeheartedly recommend it to everyone who has even a passing interest in music.

I only recently discovered Def Leppard after hearing the tracks 'Animal and 'Let's Get Rocked' on the music channels, both of which I loved, so I decided to give the greatest hits album a try. And I was blown away by the new tracks I heard, especially the emotional rock ballads 'Have You Ever Needed Someone So Bad', 'When Love And Hate Collide', their most successful UK single, and the US number 1 'Love Bites'. These are my personal favourites, and I seem to have them on constant repeat. Other good songs include the more mainstream rock songs 'Animal' and 'Let's Get Rocked', as well as the songs 'Hysteria and 'Heaven Is'. Pyromania

Just thought I would add to the praise by saying that this is up there with the best rock albums of all time: unlike Hysteria, this has no duff tracks, every song is brilliant. Rock of Ages still makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up...Billy's got a Gun is one of the Lep's best lyrics...and Photograph is the perfect pop/rock single.

The only downside to this album - like all truly great albums - is that you are forever in mourning that the band cant recreate the feat (I've just bought sparkle lounge!!). But celebrate one of the finest records ever made.

Purchased this album and as usuall I buy everything they've done since i got into them around the hysteria time, got the deluxe edition expecting all the goodies, but when i got home, opened it wheres song no 12 (Love -acoustic). There is no tracklisting on back of cover on deluxe edition, now i will have to wait till itunes have it for download which last time i checked they hadn't. Its on the cheap version.

Adrenalize

Let's be honest...this is never a "great" album. It's ok, and there is no shortage of hooks, but the lyrics are so bad they really put you off. Come on - "She's personal property", "make love like a man, i'm a man" - for christ's sake. At least AC/DC can do misogny/lewdness with humour or tongue in cheek as well as better tunes. That said there are a couple of good tracks on here - White Lighting, Tonight, Tear it Down. Worth a listen but please, it's not a great album.

On Through The Night

It's hard to describe why this is not great, but i am going to try as it seems to be a rule on Amazon to only review items you like. I have a copy of Slang, which I like, and i thought i would go back to the beginning and work through the albums in chronological order (which works for me normally) but after this, i won't be bothering with the rest. It's just not very good.

High'n'Dry

Not on this album. Def leppard's second album is a rock master class which they would sadly never repeat after following a far more poppy direction with following albums (however to be fair `Pyromania' and `Hysteria' are excellent albums in their own right).

On this album Def Leppard wear their influences on their sleeves, one can hear shades of many classic 70's rock bands such as Thin Lizzy, UFO, Scorpions and of course AC/DC, who as other reviewers have pointed out are of particular influence to the early Leppard sound. Def Leppard have even stolen AC/DC's producer Mutt Lange for this album.
