When I went to a Sarah MacLauchlan's concert in Hammersmith in 2005, she said "My manager insisted I sing this one. He said this would be the only song people knew here!" and she laughed. What a modest + lovely woman.

Sarah herself has produced dozens of amazing songs, but "Silence" by Delerium is absolutely outstanding.

Beside the original version, I like Delerium's own "Sanctuary Mix" which is included in the bonus CD of "Karma". DJ Tiesto's "in Search of Sunrise Remix" is included in Sarah's CD 'Remixed', but I personally prefer the intense/edgy feel of 'Sanctuary Mix' by Delerium themselves. I am not sure but this version seems to be included in CD 2, not this one.

Given that 'best of...' compilations are normally a collection of a group's most popular single releases, and thus a reflection of chart success, Delerium's offering sits a little oddly. Indeed, Delerium are founded upon an intriguing dual identity of mainstream dance remixes and decidedly non-mainstream ethnic/Gothic album productions that presents a difficult balancing act to replicate in this traditional format.

Semantic Spaces

I fell in love with Delirium when I heard their later stuff (Karma and after). Semantic Spaces is a big step before. It is moody and atmospheric but lacks the fluidity and richness of Karma. It is miles away from Poem and Chimera. There are no "commercial" tracks here (in my opinion). Flowers Become Screens and Incantation versions here are not as good as the remastered ones. It all sounds simpler and a bit dated (electronic equipment and soundwise). Still very good but Poem and Chimera lovers beware.

A stunning album and amazing looking album sounds good.Starting with the calming beauty of innocente which is moving song.Into stunes like tunes daylight and mysterious tunes like underwater.Following on with mostly beautiful female vocals and intrumental tunes which is very moving.
Then into a more trancey tunes on bonus disk.With the classic silence and innocente and the instrumental journey into terra firma.Its amazing its a stunner just like silence.

Delerium are a long running ambient project consisting of Bill Leeb and Rhys Fulber. Previous hits such as Duende had been re-worked into trance versions, but it was 'Silence' featuring Sarah McLachlan that proved their first big hit. The DJ Tiesto remix is typical female-vocalled trance while the Sanctuary mix is laid back chillout. A highly recommended single for trance fans.

Odyssey: the Remix Collection

From the makers of the club classic Silence these two CD's provides a mixture of sounds from banging dance tunes through to a couple of darker gothicy tunes and a couple of more chilled out tracks. A good example of some of the brilliant music created by Delerium. Check out their other albums as well you will be impressed at the variety of sounds on offer.

Nuages Du Monde

There are a couple of really good tracks on this CD but I must say that I find the rest of it a bit mediocre. The vocals are excellent and the arrangements well put together but for me it lacks depth throughout. Tracks 1 and 6 are worth buying it for.
