Donnie Munro - And Friends [2006]

by: Donnie Munro

Release Date August 27, 2007
Having left Runrig to pursue a career in politics, Donnie Munro returned to music with a solo album (On the West Side) and this amazing live album. Combining classic Runrig songs with his own new material this album has a refreshing sound, familiar but new all at once! Hopefully there are more solo albums to come, because if this is anything to go by they will really be worth listening to.

Donnie Munro

by: Donnie Munro

Release Date February 09, 2004
Bringing together his new songs and the inheritance his Runrig years left him with, Donnie Munro puts his new line-up to the test before both his most favourable and critical of audiences: the Scots. The album has a good continuity in it (despite the fact that it is taken from two gigs), and allows us to see the aspects of Runrig which were the most personal to Donnie.
The sound is good, though the mix on the first song "On the west side" is a bit odd (almost blocking the guitars away, leaving the rythm section free to carry the song along), but it is finally a plus: aside from Mr. Paton's great job on the bass, you can hear every single move made by Dave "Squeaky" Stewart, which has to be the best Scots drummer at the ... On the West Side

by: Donnie Munro

Release Date May 26, 2003
I confess I bought this CD simply because I am a great fan of its producer Chris Harley, aka Chris Rainbow - a cult pop hero who recorded many jingles for Capital Radio in the 70's and some very sought after albums. He also produced Donnie Munro's old band, Runrig. This record is in the genre I would describe as Celtic Rock. Donnie Munro is a very strong singer. The album grew on me, and some of the melodies really touched me. Something very magical about them. On the downside, I didn't like every single song. Some were a little too cloying. I liked the songs I couldn't understand the words to best! In my opinion if there had been one or two fewer songs it would have worked better as an album. If you're buying a record to see what Donnie ... Read More:

Gaelic Heart

by: Donnie Munro

Release Date November 18, 2002
Probably anything Donnie Munro does now will be compared to his work with Runrig - and in doing so, this album does not fare well. Runrig always had a certain energy and passion running through their work, which Donnies distinctive and powerful voice added to immeasurably - however this album starts with an introduction by Donnie outlining that this is part of his own childhood and first musical sounds he heard.
This is in fact the problem - as an exercise in nostalgia, this will no doubt be an effective album of folk songs done in a professional but simple style. Fans of the 'Runrig Donnie' will more likely be disappointed in an album that has little or no passion or energy.
Having said that, the album has positive points ... Read More:
