Having been an avid fan of the dolls since their self-entitled album was released, I find 'Yes, Virginia' a pale reflection of what the Dresden Dolls are able to do.

Generally the album is O.K - the songs 'Mandy Goes to Med School', 'Backstabber' and 'My Alcoholic Friends' being amongst some of my favourites - and don't get me wrong, the Dolls still pull off some wonderfully poetic lyrics. However, this album doesn't seem to have the same musical quirkiness that set the dolls apart from 'alternative' mainstream musicians.

Though the dolls do not profess to being musical geniuses, Amanda's piano performance is often annoying where it used to be kookie. Her vocal performance has also lost a certain private, talkative quality and seems to ... Read More:

When I was around 14 a friend of mine told me about a really great song I just had to hear, the song was 'girl anachronism' and the band was The Dresden Dolls, I bought the album and it changed my musical taste completely (for the better of course!)
I'm 17 now and this album currently occupies slot No. 2 in the converted 'top 5' slots in my CD rack.
Personally this album has everything I would want in one, passion, talent, Brilliant lyrics and a healthy sprinkle of psychosis; all wrapped up it becomes one of the best musical purchases I've ever made. Indeed at some points it's hard to believe all that sound is coming from just a voice, a piano, and some drums.
Recommended to absolutely everyone who has an open mind about music; I would imagine the dolls ... Read More:

I hope you have read the many fantastic reviews about this album, because they are all true; the original album is a true masterpiece, a wonderfully imaginative explosion of wild music, but...

I know this is not what you want to read, but honesty is the best policy; The Dresden Dolls released their debut album last year - and it was brilliant. I reviewed it and gave it 5 stars, because it was, in so many ways, unique. But this... this offence to the freethinking music listener should be banned, along with music censorship generally. All expletives and intensifiers have been removed and replaced either by gaps, overdubbed "sounds" or what sounds like Amanda Palmer suffering a sudden attack of bronchitis. THIS IS A WARNING: This, the "CLEAN" album, is not an album worth listening ... Read More:
