I get the distinct impression that old Tin-Tin is a bit of a prat but that doesn't stop this being one of the best album's I've ever bought. The melodies aren't at all bad- come to think of it. I bought it as a whim and wasn't disappointed. Unfortunately, although the talent is definitely there, he can't be called a great because the body of work just doesn't seem to be there or the consistency for you to be elevated to the next level. Having said this, as a one off little gem it shines with the best of them

A new label, a new image, a new sound, and the absence of the name "Stephen." Once again, Duffy is able to keep his listeners on edge by not doing anything remotely expected. Sure, the smooth voice and wonderful melodies are still present, but now Duffy seems influenced by the harder edge of '90s Brit-pop artists such as Blur, Oasis, and the like. Luckily, he is able to make it work. This CD has a harder edge to it, but it is still a treat to the ears. Duffy continues to write topical lyrics, mixing his own personal life ("London Girls") with political commentary ("Ghetto Child"), all set to toe-tapping, guitar driven pop music. Duffy is able to finally show off his electric guitar talents, and this alone is justification ... Read More:

Alexis Korner called him his favorite singer and without question, Power was one of the greatest vocalist to come out of the 1960s. After a false start recording trepid covers of American hits of the day, Power discovered the blues and transformed himself into one of its most passionate vocalists. For some reason, much of the material he recorded in the mid-sixties was not considered commercial enough and so it was unreleased in its day. Years later, when his recordings made with the likes of John McLaughlin, Jack Bruce, Danny Thompson and Terry Cox surfaced, it reinforced what many suspected all along-that Power is a major talent who should have been huge.
I have the three previous CD?s issued of Power and they are all worth owning for different ... Read More:

At last! This truly great album has been re-released. People didn't get it first time round; but the combination of Duffy's outstanding songwriting and composing and Nigel Kennedy's (yes him!) extraordinarily diverse violin accompaniment is pure gold. Experimental in places (covering styles ranging from delicate pizzacato to Indian raga in the adjoining instrumental Transitoires), but never losing sight of melody, this album flows beautifully. And the songs...romantic, but not a cliche in sight, from a songwriter at the very pinnacle of his craft. Recent magazine reviewers of the album (Q, Mojo) have seen the light this time round. Those who bought it in 1993, have had a decade of pleasure. Those intrigued by Duffy's songwriting for Robbie Williams, should investigate ... Read More:
