Nice picture of a bloke who has reached 3 score and 10. Every song brings so many memories back over 40 years. This man's voice is better than fine wine, rich, smooth like velvert. Beautiful - how can his voice possibly get better year on year? Just listen to each song, listen to the high notes, how can he hold them for so long. Wonderful 2 CD set. I look forward to seeing him on his UK Tour in October/November 2007. Just wonderful.

His Greatest Love Songs

Despite the title, this is actually a greatest hits collection in all but name - not really surprising as Engelbert was a balladeer. It contains all but two of his UK hits together with Quando quando quando and a fine selection of covers. The two missing UK hits (My Marie, Love is all) didn't make the top thirty and their omission is not important to UK fans.

At this point, I should add that Engelbert was less successful in the American singles charts although Release me made the top five and After the lovin' (which didn't chart in the UK and is not included here) made the top ten in America. Though it is in mono sound anyone who loves this work should buy this recording. Everything about it is right from the interpretive point of view with Grummer and Schwarzkopf and engaging pair of children. Karajan's conducting and the orchestra's playing is peerless. A great bargain at budget price.

I suppose the beauty of music is embracing as many different styles as possible and appreciating them for what they are and not what the "Media Musos" suggest they represent. I have CDs ranging from The Who to Neil Diamond and Andrea Bocelli to The Marmalade. One day you're fashionable, the next "so dated and sad". Who says so? Those of us who are more concerned with "Street Cred. Image", the very people who probably listen to "Easy Listening" behind closed doors.
