Annie and Dave are a couple of misfits that seem to connect. This CD represents some of the best I have heard from their "sensitive" side yet. A collection geared more towards the 'ballad', it releases some of the potential from this group's talent box. "17 Again" radiates with joy in an upbeat, but pop angled mode. "Beautiful Child" is one of the finest ballads I've heard in years and "Peace..." is just a calming intricate mood piece that let's you 'chill out'. "Power To The Meek" is straight out of the 'B-52's' style and if any song can be labeled as 'more' than borrowing from the Beatles, it is the great song, "Forever". Not only is the entire song Beatlesque, but the chord arrangments are nearly copied from "Across The Universe" and "Let ... Read More:

How did Eurythmics come up with such a storming and appropriate piece of music?. Having seen the film and read the book numerous times I am astonished that a band coould put together such a musical likeness. Its uncanny how well the music meets the mood of the book. And I recently heard that very little of this musical genius was used?...what would Jaws or Good/Bad/ugly be without their accompanying music? The music is gloomy as one would expect with references to concepts in the book (doubleplusgood, malibar front, bb's speech etc.). 'For the love of Big Brother" captures that gloominess best but the song is very infectious with wonderful female harmonies. 'doubleplusgood" is very fast and almost poppy, in a singles sort of way. Now that this Box set price has been lowered to under £30.00 on Amazon, it is a bargain. I found the new digipack packaging on all 8 albums to be very impressive. Yes, they should have included a lot more of the other stuff, B-Sides, 12" Extended Mixes and unreleased tracks. Yes they should have included the superb double Live album Eurythmics made, but at under £30 for 8 CDs packaged beautifully, you can't really go wrong! A true collector's item - could have been better but still nice to own.

In response to PA Schofield, Regrets always struck me as the most hypnotic track on this collection, which in turn is clearly superior to its predecessor (Sweet Dreams.) I've had the album on prerecorded cassette since it came out. I've rarely played any tape in the past 5 years, but I still have Regrets on the brain.
Furthermore, I saw Eurythmics perform most of these songs in the early 90s in a stunning gig at the Manchester Apollo; the freshness of the material remains undimmed.

I bought this CD because Amazon stated it was the version distributed by Virgin. However, the label turned out to be Disky, a Dutch label that distributes cheaper (and arguably lower quality) versions that I usually avoid at all costs (unless there is no way of knowing, as happened in this case).
I guess that this review will never be published, but I needed to express my total disappointment. A good CD despite the disgraceful "Disky" version, though.

Whoah! This album kicks up a storm! I think it was intended as the band's excursion into R&B and Soul, but it's much more than that in its stylistic variety, many moods and moving songs. It starts revealing its pleasures with the uptempo Would I Lie To You, followed by the delicate pop of There Must Be An Angel, and reaches a climax on the duet with Aretha Franklin, a brilliant tour de force. Conditioned Soul is another gem with beautiful intricate and dramatic guitar infusions and Lennox at her vocal best on some of their most poetic lyrics. Not as resigned as Savage, Be Yourself Tonight still has an undertone of sorrow, as in the tender Adrian. A great slice of 80's R&B follows in the form of It's Alright, followed by the most sorrowful of all, the entrancing Here Comes That ... Read More:

Along with the rest of the remastered back catalogue this is a really nice package with some good extras. One thing fans should be aware of, buying this to upgrade from their original CD - the version of I've Tried Everything is different, and substantially inferior, to that on the original release. No idea why ... but what a shame!
