Once again the label, Ipecac, releases an album from an artist I wouldn't have otherwise known about and it pushes all my (albeit peculiar) buttons.

I haven't heard such a good racket in a long time. What we have here is a Belgian Big-Band (Tuba and Clarinets included, plus Electric Guitar and Keyboards). But the music is more avant-garde than the line-up might suggest -reminiscent of that New Orleans Jazz polyphony sound, quite often pushed here to the brink of cacophany. Hints of the Zappa '88 tour sound come through as well, but FES is not an immitator.

One number starts off rather Chinese sounding. You might expect a dragon parade in accompaniment. Another reminds me of the soundtrack from Monty Python and the Quest ... Read More:

If you have any passing thoughts whatsoever on purchasing this cd then please make them a reality. You really will not regret it.

This band are great. Big band jazz has never been so good in my eyes. FES combine noirish soundscapes with dissonance, blues, jazz and infectious grooves (in particular, the title track is outstanding and will have you grooving like a mad person time and time again).

Fans of Mr Bungle (especially those who like California should like this too. Can't recommend it enough. Thumbs up
