A friend of mine called 'Mike the Bike' put me on to 'Rumours' an age ago. As his name suggests, Mike was a wretched 'macho' biker, (a contradiction to start with - a man who wears leather and goes out to meet...other men!) who used to shoot razorbacks when he lived in Australia. That sounds impressive, til' you consider your average razorback is about the size of a cairn terrier, but Mike apparently loved every blood-spilling minute of it.
Anyway, in normal life I'd rather sleep with a razorback than take a musical recommendation from Mike. He's firmly in the 'metal' enclave, he and his road-tearing associates live in a jelly outside time and listen to Queens of the Stone Age and Kings of Leon when they're not burning rubber on the (real) ... I have loved all these tracks from when they were first released and I was a schoolboy,I managed to see them live twice around that time, at the Ulster Hall in Belfast, I generally don't listen to that much older music and tend to move on,usually staying quite contempory, but just about everything on this CD sounds just as great as it always did!

I was looking for somewhere to start to begin my Fleetwood Mac education having vague childhood memories of it from the influence of my parents, and I couldn't have picked a better place to start!
This is a wonderful compliation which covers different eras of Fleetwood Mac's musical development, and with that comes some very different sounds to their music.

This was the first Fleetwood Mac album I ever heard as a child, and I instantly loved all the songs on it. Some I didn't really understand untill I was older but I still like this ablum best. So I was shocked when I got hold of 'Rumours' and hated most of the song's on it. So I guess each album is different, enticing different people with different music tastes. Always try to hear the music before buying, that way you wont be dissappointed.

One of the best compilations I've ever hearded; all of the songs are very known, and all of them are ORIGINAL HITS, restored from the analog recordings; great classic compositions like DREAMS, GO ON YOUR OWN WAY, LITTLE LIES, great ballads like AS LONG AS YOU FOLLOW, OH DIANE!, SARA, great rock like TUSK, DON'T STOP and BIG LOVE; the first time I hearded this disc, I decided that I had to buy it!!!; when you hear this disc, you will play it one and one and THOUSAND times!!!

Reviewing a best-selling, immensely popular album over 30 years after it was released is a bit like trying to evaluate Marmite. It's been around for ages, you know that people will always buy it, but everyone either loves it or hates it already, and there's little point trying to change their minds.
For me, Rumours is just about the best album ever made, and 'Go Your Own Way' is my favourite song, my desert island disc, the one that still sends a shiver up my spine and makes me smile and / or cry (or both) every time I hear it. Part of that is down to memories of earlier times evoked by the music (it just sounds like it came from better days, whether it really did or not); part of it is down to a knowledge of the intricate human relationships within the band and the ... This 'version' of the album is sold as a 'budget edition' and you will certainly be able to get it pretty cheaply(it should be cheap as it is NOT the original album).
I used to be less than keen on this album because, I feel, it suffers when compared to "Rumours", for a lack of the former's consistency. Actually I have been playing it again recently and find it is growing on me. One thing it has always had going for it though, was the presence of 'Sara', a song that is not just one of the best Fleetwood Mac songs, but one of my all-time favourite songs.
This 'version' of the album, however, features the shorter 'single edit' of 'Sara' for no fathomable reason... Oh hang on a minute, could it be that the 'suits' at the record company saw a way of persuading even casual ... Read More:

Fleetwood Mac shot back to fame with this 1975 album, the first to feature Stevie Nicks (vocals) and Lindsey Buckingham (vocals/guitar). Overlooked often in favour of the multi-million selling follow-up Rumours, this is a gem. While perhaps not quite packing the punch of Rumours, there is still a great lyrical diversity here with fewer love-gone-wrong songs and more evocative pictures.
MONDAY MORNING: A combination of Mick Fleetwood's drums and Lindsey Buckingham's voice kick off the rocking opener, the first of many vitriolic songs Lindsey would contribute to the band. The title is appropriate for this album was truly a new beginning for the Mac.
WARM WAYS: a lovely lovers lullaby from Christine McVie (vocals/keyboards), laced with delightful work from then-husband John McVie ... Read More:

'Tusk' is undoubtedly one of the most under-rated albums in rock. IMHO many of Lindsey's spiky experimental pieces are utterly forgettable in their own right, but they make an effective contrast with the more melodic offerings of Stevie Nicks and Christine McVie. Nicks' 'Storms' in particular is intimate and beautiful, while McVie's 'Brown Eyes' is similarly haunting. The bonus tracks are mostly of workshop standard and added nothing to my appreciation of the artistry underpinning the album or of Fleetwood Mac's situation during the recording sessions.

While 'Then Play On' is a masterpiece, beware that this is not a straight reissue of the original UK release - 2 tracks are missing and 'Oh Well' has been grafted in to a revised running order, as was done on European & US releases at time of issue. However, it will have to do until WEA or an enlightened re-issue specialist decides to issue the album in its entirity - hopefully boosted by the 'Oh Well' and 'Green Manalishi' singles. In the meantime, as other reviewers say, marvel in the talent on show - a band at their peak.
