One Part Lullaby

I only recently heard of The Folk Implosion, and, being a fan of Sebadoh, and Lou Barlow himself, picked this up just days after hearing of them. This was an impulse buy not to be regretted, and is one of the best albums I have heard all year. It is more calm, peaceful, and quiet than Sebadoh, but Lou's lyrics still shine through amongst all the instrumental jiggery-pokery to be found here. The tremendous emotion and feeling in his voice, combined with the glorious splendour of the music, works wonders. I didn't expect it to be anything like Sebadoh, but didn't quite know what to expect. I was very impressed. this album is no big departure for lou barlow, the music is consistently and clearly of his own hand and includes some strong ballads mixed with more grungie type sounds, well worth the money but dont expect any surprises

Dare to Be Surprised

I suppose i'm coming from the other angle: I had this album long before 'One Part Lullaby' and still love it lots.
I still love the stripped down recording ethic and arrangements: it's nice to hear an album with genuine emotion that doesn't require layers of strings to convey a meaning.
In the case of 'Burning Paper', Lou Barlow's expressive voice does it all, no extras needed.
An excellent album for those willing to stick with it and give it a chance.
