This is an excellent update of the previously released "My Way: The Best pf Frank Sinatra": the record company have added a whole new CD! The single album was already terrific value for money, containing as it did Frank's best loved and most well known songs but the addition of the extra CD has made this an indispensable album for anyone wanting to add some Frank Sinatra to their CD collection - it just beats all the other competition clean out of sight!
Release Date August 16, 2004
The name Frank Sinatra is synonymous with with Jazz, Swing and Orchestral sound of music. He had an unmatched vocal talent and his music will always be viewed as legendary. It's hard to believe it's just over 10 years since we unfortunately lost this musical great. The Platinum collection compiles all of his classic greats that anyone and everyone would recognise instantly. His music wasn't made in the same way as todays standards. It wasn't released album by album, and you didn't need crazy looking music videos in order to get people to pay attention. It was music created solely to be performed in front of small audiences at such places like the legendary Copacabana night club. It wasn't music created with cheap gimmicks or a fancy look, it was ... Read More:

As a young man on a mission, I found myself faced with the prospect of having to buy this album without knowing much about Sinatra except that which had been told to me by my Grandfather, an avowed Sinatra fanatic. In all honesty, I thought this album would challenge me, and doubted that it would be my cup of tea.
This is not Sinatra as many of my age would understand him. Not the bombast of "My Way" nor the high kicking of "New York, New York." This is a man in agony, torn apart by a failed relationship. Sinatra's pain is translated into his singing, without ever turning itself into pathos.
There's no doubt that the arrangements are fabulous, but Nelson Riddle had surely realised that the best instrument at his disposal ... Read More:

The words "classic album" are frequently used. In some albums it's justified (The Beatles - Revolver, Michael Jackson - Thriller, Iron Maiden - Number Of The Beast, Dusty Springfield - Dusty In Memphis).
In some it's not (Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon, The Beatles - Sgt Pepper, Radiohead - The Bends, Westside Story Soundtrack).
However, Songs For Swinging Lovers is without doubt, up there with the greats. From start to finish, it is pure perfection. You Make Me Feel So Young, I've Got You Under My Skin, To Marvelous For Words, How About You......
Sinatra is a very understated singer, he doesn't have to try and be athletic; the words just roll off his tongue and his clarity and diction are perfect.

I was disapointed by the quality of the recording - I (probably unrealistically) expected CD quality but found it to be worse that cassette. The songs are not the best but I could have lived with that if the sound had been acceptable. One for the bin in my opinion.

The sadness, the loneliness, the despair; its all here on this incredibly melancholy album. Dim the lights. Poor a stiff drink. Listen to these heart wrenching, beautiful songs and wonder where it all went wrong. Absolutely superb.

I am a big fan of early Sinatra however these tracks are taken from his later years when his silky voice had long since gone. Although the songs are familiar they seam to be padded out with the backing music, I guess this was to try and compensate for his voice.
Release Date February 08, 1988
Frank Sinatra was never the least self-pitying singer of all time, which I guess is why he appeals to men of a certain age. 'Only the Lonely' has a freakishly horrible cover (I can't believe it won a Grammy, full marks to Amazon for pointing that out, he looks like Wallace Shawn, for goodness' sake) but the contents are pure gold. Sinatra's voice was never better, and this collection of late-night why-did-she-leave-me standards is one of the finest and most emotionally direct things he ever did. The high point is probably the majestically dejected 'One For My Baby', a maudlin song which Sinatra invests with all the sadness, regret and longing of somebody who no longer gets to go to bed with Ava Gardner.
I actually secretly prefer Sinatra when he's more upbeat; the snap ... Read More:
