This album, could certainly be called THE album that defined the early to mid '80s, as it's up front and in your face with 'Two Tribes' and 'Relax', and emotional with 'The Power of Love'. The covers of 'Born To Run', and 'San Jose' certainly are very credible. Although this album may not be everyone's cup of tea, if you collect iconic albums, this really has to be in your collection!

Frankie Goes To Hollywood was one of the very best bands of the 1980s. The band only released a couple of albums, then it split... but its music still lives on, or rather has been revived with a BANG! release, and this is well-deserved. So even though Frankie Say... No More, Frankie still say a lot!
This compilation contains the best track of the outstanding concept album 'Welcome To The Pleasuredome', such as the debut hit single 'Relax' (regarded controversial back then!), the absolutely great 'Two Tribes', the breathtakingly beautiful ballad 'The Power Of Love', and an interesting and varied version of 'Ferry Cross The Mersey'. Plus stuff from the less impressive 'Liverpool' album, like 'Rage Hard', but sadly not including the wonderful ... Read More:

There are so many FGTH remixes out there that I didn't even know that 808State did a remix of "Two Tribes" or guitar legend Gary Moore played on a remix of "Warriors Of The Wasteland". Both of these tracks appear on these discs but they are not necessarily the highlights.
The "WOTW" Attack Full Mix is a three part remix. The first is the instrumental (play it loud) and the third is Holly Johnson's expertly manipulated vocals layered over pulsating synth drums and screaming rock guitar. The word "sublime" springs to mind. For me, the Broad extended remix of "Rage Hard" is the definitive mix. Peter Rauhofer's Doomsday Club Mix of "Relax" is vastly superior to the annoying Sex mix which is really showing its age.

Having practically everything by FGTH already in my collection, I was excited listening to the music in 5.1 surround sound. Some negative reviews were, however, a warning that the sound may disappoint.
On that sound issue, I both agree and disagree. The mixes are in a way immaculate and the lack of bass is, from my point of view, not wholly justified. The problem lies much more in the sound style of that period; very crystal and "pure" at the expense of depth. This means that the mixing would really needed a re-mix of a sort or even some re-recordings to be up to par of today's accepted sound imaging. Hence, the 5.1 mix is not as good as one maybe could have hoped for but compare the original sound to albums such as Fleetwood Mac's Rumours ... Read More:

I never thought there would be a better album than Welcome to the Pleasure Dome. Not only does Maximum Joy surpass the original boundary of musical excellence...it takes some of FGTH's classic tracks to entirely new heights with slight deviations in some of the tracks, making them much more profound and adding to their sheer brilliance...
