Fantastic CD & quality reproduction only disappointment is "Proud One" isn't included. Can't find this song on any Frankie Valli/Four Seasons CDs any ideas ?
Release Date October 01, 2001
At least the terrible Wonder Who track isn't on but this "Definitive"-one of many-includes most of the key songs.
The classic period was the 1962-66 years when so many of the B sides were as good as the A sides.
The reason why Capitol decided to invest in the Beatles was no doubt because I want to hold your hand sounded more like a 4 Seasons record than the previous ones they'd rejected but the Vee Jay label was able to milk both with the album The 4 Seasons versus the Beatles.

Well, well, well! I had both the Chameleon and Inside You albums some time ago, and to be honest, never really appreciated them. As a long standing fan of both Motown and The Four Seasons, I welcomed the link up, but I wasn't blown away with their Motown output. True that "The Night" was a smash on the Northern scene, and so I probably approached the albums expecting more of The Night, more of the Motown Sound or more of that classic Four Seasons sound. But the sound didn't seem to be any of that, apart from afew touches here and there. So it was that the only song that stuck in my mind was Walk On, Don't Look Back because it was clearly The Seasons. Fast forward to 2008.
When I knew this CD was out, I had to get a copy. I wanted ... Read More:

I remember the queues for this film and the music must have been a surefire magnet. The music is indeed spellbinding. I remember watching Top of the Pops and waiting to see if Boney M's "Brown Girl in the ring' or Grease's "Summer Nights" would be the No.1. Other tracks worth mentioning such as Greased Lightning, Hopelessly Devoted To You and You are The One That I Want make this a fitting complement to Travolta's previous "Saturday Night Fever.'
Had the Internet been popular in the 1970's, this definitely would be a Popular Review.
Release Date June 25, 2007
The three CDs are filled with superb remastered and totally authentic recordings that span the incredible career of Frankie Valli and The four Seasons. The quality is superb, the versions presented here are the originals, in stereo or mono as is appropriate. The DVD is wonderful - classic live performances of the group at its peak. Of especial note are the 1971 TOTP recordings of Let's Hang On and I've Got You Under My Skin, both live, very well recorded and very true to the 1971 stage sound. Frankie's voice is at its best and this has to be heard loud to get the full dramatic impact. Thoroughly recommended.

Yep, this is a great re-release of a great 1993 Polydor album or 1992 Polygram album, but would have been even better if the Rhino import would have kept all 24 tracks not editted to 20. So if buying 2nd hand try to get the older Polydor version first OR even better try the 1992 Polygram version of the same album but under a different name of "The very best of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons".
Hope this helps.
Baldy.

The Four Seasons, the sound of 1960s New York! Four American boys, mainly of Italian extraction. Even now, the power and multi-layered harmonies will just blow you away. A kind of east coast Beach Boys if you like, but with a slightly harder edge. In fact they did eventually (1984) record an album with the Beach Boys.
Party songs like "Let's Hang On" and "December" only really tell you a fraction of what you need to know about this band. This compilation gives a fuller - but still not complete - picture.
Oddly, several of the Four Season's songs are more familiar to UK audiences being done by other artists. For example when the Tremeloes took "Silence is Golden" to number one in April 1967, the Four Season's original version ... Read More:

Thanks to Jersey Boys no doubt we finally get some more Frankie Valli gems from his back catalogue. Close Up is Frankie at his peak and I struggle to think of a better album. I'd worn my vinyl out decades ago and so to hear it on CD 30 years later (ouch!) is wonderful. If you buy one Frankie Valli solo album it has to be Close Up. Brilliant! Valli is rather good too.
