- the legendary Fred Astaire's audition card! Well, I think he can sing as well as dance a little. Anyone who likes Fred Astaire will love this album, which includes all his best hits from films including Top Hat, Carefree, Shall we Dance, and Swing Time... Unfortunately, it does not include Ginger Rogers, but I love it anyway! A romantic hero of a time when the world was in a Depression, Fred Astaire will brighten up anyone's day and will live on forever in the hearts of people throughout the world.
Release Date September 18, 2006
A very good range of songs, it seems silly to give the review any loss of stars because of a one track omission. Unfortunately songs are a bit too fast and much faster than any in the films. Added to that the small actual amount of song, rather more instrumental and this scores a three in my mind but may be higher for those people who think the film songs are too slow.

This is part of Norman Grantz' "Fred Astaire Story" project from the 1950s. The later Astaire turns in relaxed performances, quite different from his sound in the 1930s - better, in fact. He is backed by an excellent small jazz group including Oscar Peterson, Barney Kessel, Charlie Shavers and Flip Philips! They contribute some superb moments to the album, too. The recording quality is excellent and gives an intimate feel. Don't be put off by the terrible cover design. This is a great CD.
