Whatever happened to Fred Lane? This album from the mid-eighties is an anarchic car crash of creativity with some rare, special moments. OK, it's hit-and-miss, I would be the first to admit it...and often willfully obtuse and self indulgent. The opener starts as a jazzy crooner, but it soon degenrates as a wildly honking dischordant sax takes over. There is a studied amateurishness on much here... but also a fierce commitment to originality, and dark humour.
What's the music like? Harsh sounding lo-fidelity chaotic jive, jazz, sub-rat pack swing, dislocated blues, woeful country, sub-Elvis R&R... you could dance to some of it, but then you probably wouldn't want to.
