Walk In My Shadown - The Collection

I bought this to "replace" the copy of "The Best of Free - All Right Now" which I felt had been sexed up; too polished.
This is more like it - recordings au naturale! Personally, I like to slightly fuzzy sound, it's how I remember these tracks and they are great!!
This is also excellent value for money - although to be fair the "Best of Free" was pretty good value too.
34 classic tracks from a truly wonderful band. I never tire of listening to "Wishing Well" but it's nice to get into some of the 'lesser known' stuff - like "Soldier Boy" and "Magic Ship"
Buying "The Best of Free" was a mistake - not an expensive one by any means, so it's no great shakes.
Get this one and relish that caveman sound!

WOW. You know when you read reviews of records, and the writer feels the need to use terms like 'ethereal beauty' and 'truly inspired' followed with a cringy comment on the 'fragile nature' of the guitar and keyboard interplay......I now hang my head in shame, for I am that reviewer!!

But believe me, when you listen to the opening few moments of track 1, you'll hate yourself for agreeing with me.

Bar the final track, which has some electronically twisted spoken passages from an Edgar Allen Poe poem, this is an instrumental album that stands head and shoulders above the competition. Many, many years ago I heared some excellent archive Free session material on the radio (possibly Tommy Vance's Friday night rock show on radio 1!!!). I couldn't recall the track titles but took a chance that they might be on this CD. And sure enough they were there:- "Waiting on you", "Broad Daylight" and a blistering "Songs of Yesterday". Worth buying just to hear these again and finally secure in my collection.If, like me, you don't have an extensive Free album collection but just like their raw, edgy blues rock sound then buy it just for disc 1 alone.

I figure it's time for an old Yank to pipe in. Free is an excellent band! I must admit that I've heard 'All Right Now' a couple of dozen times, along with "Mr. Big", "Wishing Well", and "Fire And Water" to a much lesser extent, before I REALLY discovered Free. I bought the two disc 'Chronicles' collection (not this one it seems as mine has different cover art but I'm sure the song mix is similar) about five or six years ago and was just blown away by such songs as "Moonshine", "Song's Of Yesterday", "Oh I Wept", "Be My Friend". If you have only a single disc "Best Of Free' or no Free at all, I cannot recommend that you buy a double disc collection enough! There are so many kickass non-hit LP cuts on the double disc sets that you will have a brand new appreciation ... Read More:

Malesch

'Malesch' was Agitation Free's first album release. Originally put out in 1972 with founding members bassist / keyboardist Michael Gunther and guitarist / keyboardist Lutz Ulbrich. Some say that 'Malesch' is one of THE best krautrock releases ever. Here, Agitation Free fuses spacey synth work, an atmospheric vibe with a Middle Eastern sound that so few bands can achieve. Best tracks include "Sahara City", the intricate "Khan El Khalili" and the title cut "Malesch". Should indeed appeal to most fans of Faust, Terry Riley, Kluster, Tangerine Dream and Steve Reich. A great pick. Recommended.

David Holmes' 2002 mix album Come Get It I Got It was created in collaboration with Steve Hilton, who also works as a programmer/composer for Craig Armstrong and David Arnold, and amongst the freaky vinyl and deep soul rediscoveries, featured the pair creating some new linking music under the guise of the Free Association. The decision for the Free Association to become a live act meant expanding the line-up to a core four-piece, with the addition of the Bay Area MC Sean Reveron and the singer Petra Jean Phillipson. A few months later the band spent 10 days in the basement studio at LA's Sunset Marquis with mix engineer Michael Patterson recording this debut album.
