. Breakawayby: Gallagher & Lyle Release Date June 19, 1995 I listened to this a lot in the late 70s, cos my older sister liked them and it was just on a lot in the house. As a result, I know it very well but I only remembered how good it was when I recently had to listen to it in order to put the old cassette she had onto CD. It's got really beautifully crafted songs and mellow, finely detailed arrangements. Very like Jack Johnston, in a lot of ways. Clever lyrics sung in a kind of understated style. Put it in your car's CD player and it will stay there for weeks, I promise you! |

. Love on the Airwavesby: Gallagher & Lyle Release Date April 26, 2004 Unbelievably late, but nevertheless... How wonderful to finally get these musical gems on CD! Pop music never was sweeter and/or more melancholy than in the capable hands of Gallagher and Lyle. Love on the Airwaves is not their best work, but well and truly good enough. I have yet to find out if sound quality and packaging make them justice. If it does, the four stars are well deserved. |

Form, structure, beautiful lyrics and superb musicianship underline all the songs on this album dating from their early years in the public eye. This is arguably G and L at their best, around the time of their albums "Gallagher and Lyle" and " Willie and the Lapdog". More famous songs like "Breakaway" and "Heart on my sleeve" came much later and seem positively overproduced and dated in comparison. Hey! - that's only my opinion and doesn't mean to detract from the craftmanship of those songs. This album , however, is a treasure of studio performances done for Radio Clyde in '74. The sound quality is very good and performances are heartfelt. May be too 'easy listening' ... Read More: |
