No doubt premier was the star of gangstar his production on step in the arena is top quality. He's years ahead of his time, and his trademark heavy scratching never grows old. However, guru is often underated he's an intellect and in my opinion his monotonal rap works well by not drawing attention away from the work of premier. This album was a much needed change from the played-out gangsta rap of this era.

What can I say about Gangstarr? Nothing that probably hasn't been said before. There are very few albums that you can put on at track 1 and just let it role all the way to the end (Illmatic, Midnight Marauders and Muddy Waters springs to mind) To say Premier creates beats would be an injustice. You could say this for the majority of producers, but this man crafts his beats. From the excellent samples, to the now legendary cuts, and the dope mixing. Most producers sample George Clinton, Barry White or James Brown, put some wack drums over it and assume it's dope. Not so. Guru has always been an intriguing MC for me. A man faithful to his roots but one of the few MC´s who feels drawn to the music´s origins, new wave Jazz and 70´s soul and funk. This CD reflects Guru and Premier´s wide musical palette.
The opening track,"Full clip," with his dedication,"Big L rest in peace," is an indication of where their soul lies in the music but as you work your way through this CD you start to appreciate their genre transcending range.

I didn't know what to expect after full clip, a lot of groups rest easy after releasing such an amazing greatest hits package, could gang starr release another awesome album. Yes they could! There isn't a single filler on the album and tracks like right where you stand and who got guns? rate right up there with anything on step in the arena or moment of truth.
