I once had Bensons'Greatest Hits and listened to the album over and over again..Then I gave it to a man I loved, cause he loved him aswell.
That love is gone now, but my love for Mr.Benson is as srong as ever.
This cd holds all the songs I've once had,eccept one(Living inside your love)That's fair enough.
Beautiful,don't hesitate to buy it if you want a complete album!

Givin' It Up

If you love smooth jazz with all danger and surprise removed then you might go for this. If you are hoping to find Benson at the top of his game as a serious guitarist then give it a wide birth. Ditto with all other musicians here.

This CD is full of top-drawer talent but the problem is that they are all so very restrained and rehearsed and the result is low fat sweet cheese. YUK!

Al hardly sings a song on it and mostly just scats rhythmic ideas that sometimes sound like an old man running for a bus. Definitely out-sung by Benson here.

George is always great on a guitar, but again this is the super smooth George and lacks any real soul and conviction. (wish I could play like him though).

In Flight

I take the cynical view: After the comparatively phenomenal success of the previous year's "Breezin'", I believe Benson and the people behind him figured they'd cash by giving the people even more of what they'd concluded they wanted. And let's be honest; although the instrumental title track of that album was all over the radio too, it was the vocal track "This Masquerade" that was the real big hit. A Grammy winner, no less.

So this time, Benson goes for not just one vocal track, not just two, not three but a whole FOUR! - "Nature Boy", "The World Is A Ghetto", "Gonna Love You More" and "Everything Must Change" - launching the album (and his career) fully into pop territory. Give Me the Night

I don't have much time for music that goes under the banner of disco, soul, etc., but occasionally those genres throw up something that I can't ignore. I've always had a liking for the title track of this album and, knowing that Benson is a renowned jazz performer and that he has some of the best assistance possible here, I took a chance. What a delight. Benson's jazz background shows up regularly, but 'Give Me The Night' is no less accessible an album. It has strong songs, such as 'Star Of The Story', great grooves and classy arrangements, courtesy of Quincy Jones. Perhaps 'Love X Love' is a touch too mild for an opening track, but 'Off Broadway' certainly kicks off. I'm not so sure Benson did anything as good as this 1980 album again. Later songs such as ... In Your Eyes

I've had the cassette version of this since I was a little girl (many years ago) and I still listen to it and love it as much now as I did then. I am so pleased to have found this on CD especially as my old stereo with cassette is about to die.
George has a great voice, easy to listen to tracks and timeless tunes which get you singing along in no time. I would say that this is the best of anything he has done.
There are a couple of other songs that I like, well knows ones that would be great on here too, but I'd chose this over any other of his albums.

Breezin': Remastered

There are a lot of things one could call George Benson, but repetitive is not one of them. Having earnt his stripes at a very young age (drawing comparisons to the great Wes Montgomery early on and playing for Miles Davis), Benson had a lot to live up to in his solo carreer.

His early recordings for Verve established him as a powerful and original leader, and his albums for CTI are among the finest albums the label ever put out. Then, in 1976, he tried his hand at pop which, unfortunately for fans of his early work, he has stuck at ever since.

Most jazz purists dismiss this album as comparable only to the contrived, over-produced jazz/pop crossover music that followed it and made Benson a star to people outide jazz circles. But there ... Read More:

Absolute Benson

The trouble with old Georgey Boy is a lack of grit to pretty well everything he does, allied to his rather soapy singing. This is a shame, because he is actually a pretty good guitarist and here he shows it with a notable supporting crew such as Joe Sample, Steve Gadd, Ricky Peterson and Christian McBride. For this album, singing has been kept to a minimum, thank God, and, yeah, well, it ain't bad at all, with a few blues numbers thrown in for good measure.

Of course, no George Benson album will ever really kick ass (if only he could do more stuff like that killer opener to A Twist of Motown), but the musicianship on this one just about sees it through to my satisfaction.
