This amazing, haunting and hypnotic score that accompanies the film 'The Crucible' is incredible to listen to. It seems to have this ability to take the listener back to Salem in the 17th Century where the film is set.
From the opening track, 'The Crucible Front Titles: Dancing in the Forest' right the way through to the end track 'Forgive Us (The Crucible End Credits)' the score leaves the listener hanging in mid-air till the next track arrives. Each track has its own individual haunting melody and it ought to be acknowledged that George Fenton, the composer of this amazing score, should be congratulated on coming up with an inventive and original idea for a film score. My favourite is the opening track as it sets the whole ... Read More:

The BBC's natural history unit always produces first class programmes with stunning pictures and music. The Blue Planet is no exception and George Fenton's music for this series is absolutely stunning. Fenton's music is full of energy, emotions, spine chilling harmonies and individual character - qualities that have been missing from the film scoring stage in 2001. Most of the tracks are different in character, owing to the footage that George Fenton music was designed to fit, but stand up as pieces in their own right without having to watch the TV series. My favorite tracks in particular are tracks 1, 2 and 4. Track 1 - The Blue Planet - is the opening sequence to the series and employs a full orchestra complemented by a small choir from ... I only have to say that if you want some music for your death bed, pick this score.
It is beautiful and restful and it's choral offerings are wonderful in their almost spiritual composition.
George Fenton really is the best British composer working today. His work on Shadowlands, Grey Owl and Groundhog Day are truly inspiring when listened to on their own.
The highlight from this score is "As A Boy And As A Man", the epilogue sequence after Joy's final 'scene', when the music plays over shots of the lush Oxford morning, as Jack ponders his next move in life...
