December: Anniversary Edition

by: George Winston

Release Date December 03, 2001
It's already been 25 years since the analogue LP record of this album was first released. This was one of the earliest albums released by Windham Hill Records. I was only a teenager at that time, but since then I don't know how many times I've listened to this AMAZING piano solo collection.

For those who are not familiar with Winston's works, his piano style is not classical or jazz, and it's not like popular 'mood' piano and certainly not like a 'hotel lounge' kind of piano either. The sound of Winston's piano is clear, atmospheric and has a certain 'calming effect'. I'd recommend this CD to anybody who wants to spend the Christmas time and the whole winter quietly. It'd be a perfect Christmas present. If you've enjoyed his ... Read More:

Autumn: Special Edition

by: George Winston

Release Date September 10, 2001
I first heard this album when I was taking classical piano courses in college. It was, and still is, an inspiring album for a piano player, as much for the mixture of styles as it is for the sheer pleasure of the tunes.

This is my favorite George Winston album, even though I have worn out December over the holidays. The songs evoke so many mental images.

The initial track, "Colors/Dance" always makes me picture a ride through the woods, with it's simple melody and background chord progression.

"Longing/Love" is one of those songs you want to play, even if you don't know how to play the piano.

My favorite track is "Moon", starting out slightly fast paced that the other tunes with a little ... Read More:

Summer

by: George Winston

Release Date November 07, 1992
Mellow, tripping, carefree and atmospheric: George Winston makes some really good neo-classical noises on his Summer CD, without a doubt the most relaxing you are ever likely to listen to. If you are into your heavy stuff this is not your bag; its feather notes tumbling from the piano have nothing of the grandeur of classical tradition, yet avoids being twee. The subtlety of Chopi without his moodyness. Simple, alluring, sexy and serene. Superb. One hundred out of five.

Autumn

by: George Winston

Release Date January 01, 1995
George Winston is indeed the consummate pianist. Don't try to confine him to whatever concept of new-age music you may have, because Winston surpasses that with the feeling of such jazz piano greats as Meade Lux Lewis and George Shearing, a feeling for the best of the pop & soft rock genres, and a voice all his own which sounds through his piano.

This is music that'll stand up to strong listening, and yet is good background for whatever, or for just quiet meditative times. There's artistry and poetry here, and a music style that all should enjoy.

Plains

by: George Winston

Release Date February 19, 2000
This album has a really nice collection of music. I like almost all of the songs in this album. The song, Plains, is my most favourite track. It is a very simple and moving music, remind me very much of New Zealand or Montana landscapes. The song is very similar to some of the tunes written by composers like Dave Grusin and Thomas Newton. The track, "Teach me Tonight" is not on my favourite list of George Winston's songs because it is too loud and especially when you are relaxing with the rest of the slow songs from the album, this particular track seems to be out of place and it spoils the mood of peacefulness on the album.
